As you see by the responses so far, Atheist are not about giving reasons behind their disbelief but criticizing those that believe. I have also tried to understand there view point but unfortunately all I receive was a lot of angry, smartallic nonsense. Good luck with you question and God Bless.

Did you seriously just imply that without Jesus and god there is no right and wrong, love, and compassion? I don't believe in Jesus or god because I have no reason to. I don't need the threat of someone watching over me to be a good person and do what's right. I'm capable of making that distinction on my own. I would also say that, to me, it seems easier to believe than to not believe. It's easier to just concede and say "god did it" instead of trying to understand and investigate and discover the answers to the questions we don't yet know. And not ALL atheists treat Christians like they are dumb. Actually, MOST atheists don't do this. You really shouldn't generalize such a statement. So I guess I could turn this around and ask you why you believe. What is the reason to believe that Jesus is our savior? Just as you have your personal reasons, we have ours and we shouldn't have to justify them to anyone.

experiences people have can lead them to not believe. Things don't go your way, horrible things happen to you and it makes you question if there is a 'god' why he would do such a thing. Also, some of it seems like a story, passed down to us to build morals.
Its just a difficult concept to grasp, we see the physical world and nothing more.
We get right, wrong, love ,and compassion from other humans, from our life experiences, nothing more its simple really.
i wouldnt say all atheists treat christians like they're dumb. Why do all oober religious ppl try to push their beliefs on everyone?
Its easy to not believe, you wont get your hopes up and you have a view of the world, this is where i am now and then i will be gone.

Why do I not believe?
Because there is no evidence for the claims of religion.
Yours, or any other.
I think right is right, wrong is wrong, love is love and compassion is compassion. I mean really, what else was I going to think?
And what do you mean "where else can we get them"? I don't remember the exact step where we needed this or that version of God to make things happen. In fact, this God has never been observed to have anything to do with them, or anything else for that matter, so it is kind of strange that you link the two.
I treat stupid people like they are dumb. Be you Christian or anything else, if you tell me that evolution is wrong because we should all have light saber toes, or if you tell me that "all yyy are zzz", or make large numbers of unsubstantiated claims, it really won't matter what your religion is.
I also think that there is no particularly "easy" thing about believing or not believing.

I can't speak for all atheists, but I can speak for myself. I don't believe because I think for myself, I do not like it when people expect me to believe what I'm told without solid proof. If they say "Just look around you then there's proof of god." Where should I look? I see flowers, rivers and all sorts of nature, but I also see homeless, mentally ill, starving, people dying of diseases that they should not have contracted. Sorry, but for this atheist, there is not enough proof of him. A book that says so isn't enough for me.
I don't treat christians as dumb, for I know that I'm not the smartest in the world myself, but I do know I'm not the dumbest either. It's not that easy not to believe, but no matter how much I try to convince myself, I keep coming to the same conclusion. I can not delude myself into believing that he exists. Reality takes ahold of me and I am just to old for an imaginary friend.

It is because ,you are not open minded, you believed what you think without even dare to question God.If God create this world and he should well be able to know that man will betray him and bring harm to others who love peace.Example most man love killings and sex.See the website and you will be surprise(The other side of the world you did not visit because you are a Christian )If God really create all this,he must be able to accept,if not it is his mistake to be blame to allow Satan to fight free. The problem Satan and God had should not pass to others if he claim ,He love the human race and what about Christian or had he forgotten you .A true christian will be able to learn and practice as what the bible said and will be able to accepted the different and be able to tolerate. The bible said that God said that the weeds in the padi field had to live aside and wait till the harvest day.May God Bless all with wisdom. Some people require some evidence to support a belief before believing.
You can ask yourself why you don't believe in the invisible pink unicorn that lives in my garage and rules the universe from there. If you can articulate the reasons why you don't believe that, it may give you a clue as to why people do not believe Jesus as any savior.

I do not believe in anything supernatural--including the idea of "Jesus as savior/Messiah/God"--because there is a complete and utter lack of evidence that such things are real. I don't treat Christians like they are dumb; most of my family and many of my friends are Christians or members of other religions, and I certainly don't think that they are stupid.
We get our sense of morality, love, compassion, empathy, ethics, etc., from ourselves and from common sense and from our experiences with the world and with each other. We don't need anything supernatural do to it.

The way I see it, there are two types of people who don't believe. Jesus talked about both.
1) God didn't want them. ( John 6:44 - 45 ; Matthew 13:11 - 15; Romans 9:10 - 13 )
2) They did not value what they heard. ( Matthew 6:30 )
Now this truth as well, please read this closely:
They hate us. No matter what they say, they want us gone. The reason why I know this is the truth is because Jesus spent some of his time talking about it. Everyone wants to think that they are innocent of hatred - it's not Politically Correct to hate, but instead of not hating they cloak it, and we see the fruits of their heart!
Matthew 15:18
"But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.'"
Matthew 12:34
"O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."
That was THE Lord speaking. He knew these things to be true. That is why we are acting like what He said to act like when we are preaching the Gospel! Love your enemies; we do this by bringing the message of life even to the ears of the unrepentant. Of course they will reject it, they are not wanted by the Father. He already rejected them, but in turn, they who were called 'swine' look to rend us, they are here on Yahoo!Answers every day attempting to get us caught up in our words and to put to death once and for all the message of Grace.
The first thing I would tell Christians to do is to sit back. Look upon the ungodly with spiritual eyes, and discern the answer which must be given : The answers need to be geared for those who are seeking God, the same as when we were seeking Him.
So people don't believe: part of them because they are not going to be saved. There is no hope for them, they are truly damned. The other one's are those who are young, or that they are stubborn, and God is breaking them in ways that God only knows. WE NEED TO BE USED BY GOD! Not because He NEEDS us to, but because we are willing to do the work that He would have us do.

People sometimes believe what they are taught to believe in, whether by their parents or their schools, or even their churches. But, you have to keep in mind, there are countless cultures out there - this is still a relatively big world, no matter how small it may seem to some. And in this big world, there are many different belief systems and religions. Regardless of your religion or my own (if it is even different), we must all exercise acceptance of one another, and respect another person's belief system - who are we to judge another? Its a true shame when we begin to discriminate against others, and let those prejudices taint our own beliefs. Ideally, we would love one another for who we are. Realistically, people hate others for far less than religious beliefs. Sigh...
That's just my 2cents, at least...

Compassion and love and belief in right and wrong existed before this Jesus guy came along with his power saw and mindbending lingo. Not to take anything away from the guy or his followers just everyone has a choice to believe in whatever they want or to not believe in anything at all which if it does as much for them as your belief does for you I don't see why it matters at all. Christians following the word of Christ simply turn the other cheek to those who seek to assault them with 'ignorance' and to pray for them. You know this old boy. Namaste.
