I'm 15.
About 30 pounds over my 'ideal weight'
...a girl...

what should i eat, what shouldn't i eat.

I can't spend money on excersize equipment or plans.
I have some little weights(2, 3, 5).

I am mostly concerned about my tummy and love handle areas.

My parents don't let my skip meals.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you

Skipping meals is a no-no anyway.

You can't spot reduce. :-)

Here are some general tips: drink more water. Lots more.

If you can avoid it, don't drink your calories. You can drink milk, but skip sugary drinks, sodas, fruit cocktaikls. Just eat the fruit.

Switch to whole grain everything.

See if you can't start your meals with a bowl of broth-based soup or a salad. Eat more slowly, and stop when you're no longer hungry. Go for a walk every day.

That'll do it. It's really that simple. However, it's not always easy. Good luck!

PS- You won't lose 30 pounds in a month, so don't try. Consider putting gift cards on your list instead of clothes, so once you stabilize your weight somewhere you want it, you can go shopping. Better to do that then have something you can only wear for a month because you lose more weight or gain some back right after you get it.

DO NOT SKIP MEALS!! It lowers you metabolism.
Just do your best to eat healthy and limit you intake of junk food (cookies, candies, chips, ect) Im not saying completlly cut it out b/c if u dont , once u it again once ull go overboard. fruits and vegies are great. offer to help cook sometimes so you can push the good stuff at family meals.
as for excersize- walks are great. and free

Also, you say your 15, dont worry too much about you weight and what is "ideal" be more concerned with being healthy then skinny. if your really concerned about your weight then ask your parents to make you an appontment with you doctor. You can work together to find what the good weight range is for you, not just what ome formula says , and what steps you can take towards feeling your healthiest. you will feel better being helthy then just having the "perfect body"
and dont forget , confidence is a better look then the perfect body always!

You are right not to skip meals, because that can actually cause you to gain weight. In fact, doctors recommend that instead of 3 big meals a day, you should have 4-5 smaller meals a day. Of course, fruits and vegetables are good for dieters. Also, lean meat and poultry. Try to limit fats (cookies, chocolate, butter, etc.) and reduce carbohydrates (breads, pasta). Whole wheat and high fibre bread are better than eating white bread. One of the best exercises is walking (briskly) each day for 30+ minutes, plus it doesn't cost a thing. Swimming is also a good exercise. Good luck and remember that fad diets or crash dieting is more harmful in the long run. Always diet safely and moderately, so that the results are sustainable.

you should NEVER skip a meal, thats the worst thing for losing weight. Losing healthy weight, that is. If you can actually, it's better to eat more throughout the day, but in smaller portions. I used to eat like 2 big meals a day, big lunch and big dinner. When I was in HS I started taking health classes etc., and I joined the tennis team too, and I couldn't get by on 2 big meals a day, so I started to eat a bunch of little meals. A small but hearty breakfast, usually something like oatmeal, or a protein bar and a piece of fruit and some juice, and then a protein bar or granola bar and a piece of fruit before lunch and then a light lunch, which was hard to do since it was before tennis practice, and then after practice, before dinner, I would eat a snack like some fruit or some yogurt with granola and then I would have my dinner with my family which would usually be kind of heavy, but I just wouldn't eat as much.

As for exercises, concentrate on cardio, like running or jogging. Sit ups and crunches and things like that used to define and increase muscle won't really help with losing the fat. You can also use the small weights to carry with your while you jog or run. I wore small ankle weights while I had tennis practice, and it helped a ton more than just the practice alone.

So eat more small portioned meals throughout the entire day, do cardio exercises, and also drink more water. Sodas and alcoholic drinks contain high sugar and high calories, it's such a waste to drink so many calories, if you can't take drinking water anymore, drink something like Orange Juice or Grape Juice, and not Grape Juice Cocktail but the real thing because it will help make you feel like you're full and you'll be less hungry, plus it will count towards and serving of liquids, and a servings of fruit. Just don't get caught up in fad diets or try to skimp out on eating all together. Remember, your body needs calories to burn, and if your body gets used to having to burn calories all day long it will become habit and your body will start pulling extra calories to burn, which will be pulled from fat sources.

Cut out sodas (diet and regular), and sweetened coffees and teas.
Eat at least 5 fruits and veggies every day, and eat as many colors as you can.
Eat whole grains.
Cut foods with ingredients that read "enriched," "high fructose," "sugar," or "hydrogenated" in the first five ingredients on food labels.
Eat low fat meats.
Drink 2-3 cups of skim milk/day.
8-12 cups of water/day.
Start exercising 4-6 days a week with a long walk and some push ups and crunches at a minimum, but more helpful would be a 15+ minute jog, 30+ minute bike ride (at a decently fast pace), or rollerblading for 30+ minutes. Whatever you do, make sure you're sweating.

Pizza is going to be a set-back.

Croutons. Usually not many calories in a small packet, but when they already come on a salad you dont know how many extra cals they are. Besides, what pleasure do you *really* get out of eating them?

any heavy or creamy desserts like cheesecake and pies are going to set you back. they taste nice but is it really worth it? Weight watchers makes an awesome frozen cheesecake and dessert range. Treat yourself with those instead.

Your parents are right, do NOT skip meals. This slows your metabolism down and makes you store more fat.

mcdonalds is OK *if* you can manage to stick to the lower calorie items and lower fat items. This doesnt necessarily mean salads only. It does mean using lower fat dressings. It just means being aware of what you eat. Think *small* fries. I eat my main item first, and often can't even finish my fries. Info is on the back of the tray liners or on their website. When done right, McD's can actually be a way of feeling like eating normal food and staying within general guidelines. Burger King is worse in just about every way. If you have to pick between the two, go wtih McD's.

Do not completely BAN any food entirely as it will increase your chances of cravings and overeating with that food. Be sensible and have it once in a while in sensible portions.

There ARE weight loss pills both Rx and non-Rx that DO work. Anyone who makes blanket statements saying dont take them because they dont work is uninformed. To maximize weight loss, read up on what optimizes your body systems like digestion, metabolism, and immune systems. The tummy and love handles need exercise not diet to trim those areas. Do crunches and dance to your fav radio station or CD. Got a hula hoop yet?? Use it. How about a jump rope. You need 3 low cal meals every single day with a good snack between each meal and at bedtime to keep your metabolism up and your blood sugar more level. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and get plenty of calcium and protein. Make sure your bread and pasta are whole grain products for more fiber and nutrtition/

The best thing to do is eat whatever you like, just not in the amounts are you now. Try using a smaller plate for meals, filling up on vegggies and don't eat ANYTHING after 7p.m.I have recently lost 30 pounds in about 8 weeks doing this, the only thing I actually did not consume was soda.Don't need any exercise equipment, just get out and walk. Check out Webmd.com for diet ideas, mine was a slightly modified diabetic diet.

Try to eat complex carbohydrates and not simple carbohydrates. Sugar and white bread are both examples of simple carbohydrates. If you can, try to eat primarily brown rice and whole grain cereals and bread. (Most cereals are whole grain.) You should also try to jog/run/walk, whatever your physical fitness level is for 2 hours a day if you wanna lose weight that badly. After about a week you should et noticable results and maybe a few compliments. The weights may help tone up your muscles a bit, but if you have 30 lbs. of excess fat, even if you tone them they probably won't really show through. So, initially, you should just try and focus on losing the excess fat and toning muscles later.

you're 15, you're still growing, so i don't think you should be going on any kinds of diets (they don't work anyway) but...

* avoid ALL junk food. includes fast foods, take-aways, ect...
* do not eat or drink any products such as energy drinks ect.
* absolutely DO NOT have any off those 'diet pills' or drinks because they don't work and will make you miserable.
* you can use those weights of yours and excersize simply by running or doing sports - try doing crunches to work on your waist. the more muscle you gain, the more fat you burn.

basically all you can do is be as healthy as possible. your parents were right, you shouldn't skip meals because it will probably do nothing to help your weight. and remember that even if you don't get to your 'goal weight' it's probably 'cause muscle weighs more than fat.
