I have always loved Oscar Wilde's "A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing."

It is difficult to define such a quote without sounding trite or making it sound like a cliche. But for me old Oscar really nails it. A cynic sees problems and costs everywhere and determines something's, or someone's importance (or worth) based on its monetary or material "value". How can you put a price on concepts such as "freedom", "democracy" or "friendship"? Yet they can hold the greatest "value" to an optimistic and progressive person. I have friends and people within my own family who immediately think of $ when we discuss a problem or an idea. While perhaps they are not all cynics it is obvious that what is in their wallets is often more important than what is in their hearts.

I have tons of favorite quotes.
Here's one: "The optimist believes we are living in the best of times. The pessimist fears this is true." Aldus Huxley

Why do I like it? It's true and it's humorous.

Here's another good one I agree with:
"Some people ask if the glass is half full or half empty.. I say, the glass is too big." George Carlin

Another humorous truth.

i dont know who its from but its:
"Don't allow somebody to be your priority
while allowing yourself to be their option. "

it really pertains to my life because i tend to put others in front of my own good despite the fact that it might not be the same for them. a huge fault that 95% of us have.

also:
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change" from the serenity prayer.
it teaches you to accept things and move forward. =)
