My boyfriend and I want to get engaged and have started discussing rings and whatnot. It turns out he doesn't even want a wedding band, but I think it's an important symbol of the marriage. I don't want to make him do something he doesn't want to, but I also don't want to have a lonely wedding band. Help?

He claims a band for him would just be an "expensive piece of metal", and that he would rather have something more useful like a nice watch. I offered to get him a watch as an engagement present but he still doesn't want a band =/

The ones I showed him were tungsten, which is a bit expensive. I'll try and see if he'll go for a cheaper one. He has no problem spending money on me but he hates spending money on himself...I can never get him to treat himself to anything!

Mine claimed that too until it got closer. Then he really wanted it. However he is right. It is just an expensive piece of metal. Is he worried about losing it? My husband wears a really cheap one he ordered off the internet. So does one of my friends. I don't care--he is still wearing one.

My friends is a $20 stainless steel and my husbands is about $5, and has to be thrown away every 3 months or so. Limoges.com. He works with high voltage and was worried about it getting stuck or having to be cut off, or simply just losing it. Now he doesn't worry about it.

Go look in pawn shops or estate sales. There is no reason he needs to spend $300 on a plain metal band. And before everyone jumps you on asking why he doesn't want to, he just may have a valid reason for not wanting to wear a band. He will probably change his mind as the wedding actually gets closer. Right now its just too far away for him to think about. Thats how it was for my husband.

You have to buy the ring for him. He's not supposed to buy for himself. There are some good companies online that sell fairly inexpensive rings. You don't have to get anything fancy either. Just a 3 or 4 mm gold band (make sure it's comfort fit) will be just fine. This is a great site for wedding rings:

Good Luck!

Let him pick a ring that he will wear - even if it doesn't look like a typical wedding band. My husband works in construction and I was worried about him not wearing one because he was worried about damaging it. He picked a more casual style made out of meteorite and platinum - its all dinged up now but it looks great still and he loves it so much he never takes it off.

Reading how you guys aren't even engaged yet, he might not be ready to commit and get married. He could just be agreeing with you to make you happy. I know that's kind of mean, but it could be the truth.

Although, some guys don't wear their wedding rings. My dad doesn't, but he also works on cars and in the garage alot, so wearing it could actually ruin the ring.

But still, what does he have to be afraid of?

And tell him that a watch is not a sign of marriage... men.

i picked out the wedding band i wanted, surprise it was 90 dollars. Expensive, i guess to some, but deffinetly do-able.
Buy a cheap one for him. If he still refuses to wear it, then thats ot the issue. You DO mean once you are married right?

He doesn't want a band - now get off his back. You can buy him one for the ceremony, but don't "make" him wear it. I've been happily married for 25 years and don't usually wear my wedding band....unlike you, my wife is completely secure with it. Now grow up.

Because YOU should be buying the wedding band for him. Just get a narrow, 10k gold band - classic and manly.

My soon to be fiance is anti ring as well, he doesn't even wear a watch, so jewelry is foreign to him, at least that's the excuse.

I just keep telling him its important to me and I'll get him a thin one, and to please wear most of the time. At work he sometimes works on high tech cars and it would get in the way, so I understand he couldnt wear it then. He'll come around, yours should to!

I would suggest to him that you think it's important.
Tell him that it doesn't have to be fancy diamond jewelry or expensive. A simple gold band is fine, masculine, and gets the job done. Did his father wear one? Friends?
