I have to write a disability simulation paper for my SPED class. For the paper I had to be disabled for 48 hours. I took out my contacts because without them I am legally blind. (legal blindness is 20/200) Now, I know my eyesight is far over the 20/200 limit...I was just wondering how far?? Last I knew it was 20/400...I think that was 6th grade. I am now a sophomore in college and it has continually gotten worse. I'm just curious, really.

I've asked this myself. There is not really a formula from what I have gotten, but I did get this approximate conversion from a medical source. Unfortunatly it doesn't go very high (my perscription is worse than what this goes up to too.) Hope it give a little more info though.

20/10 Plano (zero)
20/15 Plano
20/20 Plano to -0.25
20/30 -0.50
20/40 -0.75
20/50 -1.00 to -1.25
20/100 -1.75 to -2.00
20/200 -2.00 to -2.50

Once the vision is worse than 20/200 (6/60 outside USA) it is common as a first measure to assess the acuity by usinging the largest letter on a standard chart but reducing the distance until it can be seen.. 10/200, "sees the top letter at ten feet" etc. Your Rx might give 4/200 by this route, which in theory could then be multiplied up into thestandard format as to 20/1200 but, when the severe poor vision is due to shortsight this is slightly misleading, as testing close to the eye somewhat favours it!

( I get to -14.00 on the worst meridian of my worst eye. -9.00 is about the mean sphere of my good eye)

In an exam, if you could not see the big E (20/400) then they would see if you could count fingers . With that rx I don't think you would even be able to see fingers either so there is really no answer. Sorry!
