The guy in the locker next to me takes one or two naproxen pills a half hour before our hockey games to help prevent pain from the contact. I was wondering if this would work and if there is any point in doing it. I took one before a practice once and it didnt upset my stomache at all so if it does work i would start doing it. I was just wondering if it is at all worthwhile to take the pills before the game to prevent pain.

naproxen is an anti inflamatory and is basically the same thing as aleve only in higher doses. it won't really numb the pain at all. i've taken it before as well as indosin. it may help alleviate swelling before it happens but that's about it

Naproxen is not a pain reliever, only in the sense that it keeps down the inflammation.
