The National Archives hold the Army Service Cards for most WW1 soldiers (unfortunately, a small percentage were destroyed). If you have enough information on the person you're looking for you can download their Army Service Card for £3.50. Just a name and d.o.b. will do, but knowing their regiment will make it easier.

The card will tell you where they served, what medals they were awarded, etc.

Here's the web address, and good luck!

where you find the details would depend on the person surviving the war. There is a CD that lists all soldiers who were killed in the war, or you could try the public records office at Kew. I hope this helps

No. i'm greater of a peace advise, any connection with being on the hand of a gun does not be a popularity i might go with for my new child. a popularity ought to paint a photograph of pleasantries in ur head. I dont think of friendly techniques once I hear the call "Gunner". How approximately "Racer" ?

I agree with Roddy, I found the grave locations of two great grand uncles who were killed in the latter months of WW1.

If a serviceman was killed, you will find details of him on the site of The Commomwealth War Graves Commision.
