What does C.S. Lewis mean by saying "mere" Christianity? Why the "mere"?

He means purely Christianity. The book that he wrote was called Mere Christianity and it is mainly all on Christianity stuff. Theologies, Christian beliefs, etc.

He means Christianity in its purest form. He did not mean that Christianity was small and insignificant. ie.Christianity without all the bells and whistles.
