Most of my dogs that I have had I got for free but free doesn't always mean free in the end.

The 2 dogs I have now is a Rottie mix named Dakota who I got from of a neighbor of a friend of my mom. I didn't pay anything to get her.

My other dog Duke is a Lab mix! He is a rescue dog. He was rewcued from a storm drain as a pup with his family with their mom. He was free too. I adopted him from where I used to work.

I do know that free isn't free and that you have to take care of them, feed them, love them, play with them.

My blond Lab.. who is Sunny... he is a delight...
but can be trouble.. had him about 3 years now.. he still has a lot of pup in him.. he always wants to ruff house... (play to ruff)..
I had a female Lab, named Lala... she came down with a tumor in her front rt shoulder,, I had it removed by vet.. 3 months later it was back.. the vet was going to remove her leg up to the shoulder.. but said the cancer was most likely threw out her body.. so I had her put down.. for a while I didn't have a dog..

then about 5-8 months later, I started going to the Humia Society of N. TX ~~~ just to walk threw.. I must of went 10 times.. on the 9th visit.. I saw Sunny.. and I went back the next day to adopt him..

You are correct about them not being FREE,, there is shots every year.. dog food every day.... plus any illness they may come up with from fleas to mange.they can be a big responsibility..
but i love him so.. he is worth it..

I bought my dog from someone that raises Chihuahua's. When I got a dog I had to get a small one because I also have a parrot. I would have worried a big dog would have been able to stand up and push on the cage scaring my parrot. I have had the parrot for many, many years and he rules the roost here. But I think it was great the you rescued your dogs. That is a very noble thing to do.

There's really no such thing as a free dog. Even if you don't pay to purchase it, you still have food, vet care and equipment to buy. Compared to this, the cost of even an expensive puppy may be rather small.

One dog was obtained free from a show breeder who was taking her out of her kennel. One was pulled from the pound. Two were rescued from a BYB. The other two were purchased as show dogs from highly respected breeders.

I have a Norwegian Elkhound that my mom found at a rescue. She was about 8 years old, found running along a deserted highway with her brother. I wish we could have taken both!

We just had to pay for her license. It's nice to have a dog that is pre-trained.

I got mine free from some people who thought a puppy would be fun at first. Then they realized how much work they are.
