Job description - wish list or reality?

I want to know in what extent I have to satisfy the job description or requriements for an advertised job. I am presently in Sydney and planing to start looking for a job in January/February. My area is management.

Authentic experience would be greatly appreciated.

I'd guess this is probably the same in all countries and continents. An ad generally lists what the ideal candidate would have. Some of the requirements are very possibly non-negotiable, but if you have most of what they ask for, it doesn't hurt to go ahead and apply. A job description in an ad is much more than a wish list, but they might bend something if they don't find a candidate with everything they are looking for.
