Not to alarm you but my husband had swelling in that area about 5 years ago which became very very painful as the night went on. Within a day, he was air-transported to a hospital in another city with what was diagnosed as necrotizing fasciitis (sp). You can search the net for this. If your pain persists or gets worse quickly, see a doctor ASAP.

Are you suffering from constipation? I would take a stool softener because the stools can get impacted in the intestines and cause pain. You could have a tear/scratch around the anus and it has gotten infected. Hemmorhoids is something else to consider. I used a medicated wipe and cream and this made the swelling a pain go away in a few days.
I would go to the doctor and have it checked out in case.your anus has gotten infected from a scratch or tear.
I recommend buying the medicated wipes to keep it clean and reduce swelling.

Well, not knowing much about you, it sounds like acase of hemrhoids. Try a little anusol, to treat the pain and swelling. If this is a long term thing, go see a doctor. It might be a symptom of something serious.

Hemorrhoids are associated with constipation and straining at bowel movements. How to get rid of hemorrhoids https://tr.im/ritMv
Pregnancy is also associated with hemorrhoids. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins that causes them to swell. Other conditions, for example chronic liver disease, may also cause increased venous pressure and may be associated with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are very common and are estimated to occur in up to one-half of the population by age 50.

It sounds like it might be a hemorroid. The best thing I can say to do would be to get some hemorroid cream and see if that helps relieve some of the pressure. If not, obviously, seek a doctor.

How's your digestion been? If you've been kind of sick, then it could be that. Otherwise, if could be hemmrhoids or something. I'm not a doctor, so I'm not sure. But you should probably go see a professional to find out.

hemmorrhoids?? you may have made it worse if you were straining. you might want to get it checked out by a doctor just to be sure it isn't something else...also they can recommend the best treatment... but you could try an over-the-counter hemmorrhoid cream for temporary relief for now, until you can get to the doctor.

Keep in mind you anus is an EXIT, not an Entrance. Only one thing should be coming out of it, and nothing going into it, soooooooooooo, you should now be able to figure out what is wrong........
