I bought a new bamboo bowl. Do I need to do anything special (cleaning? oiling?) before I eat from it?

Give them a good wash and then dry.
The only problem I have heard is that if you leave foods in them overnight, like tomato sauces, they can absorb the colour.

bamboo like all wooden products require special care. I would suggest applying mineral oil or a mineral and beeswax oil to them. this will protect the bowl and stop it from drying out. Both products are available at Williams sonoma

Just wash w/ dish detergent and hot water, then towel dry. No dishwasher.

I love bamboo bowls/plates. So pretty!
