You cant but you can wash your dog every week, but dont over wash your dog because the smell comes from their oil glands and they will produce more oil if you over wash( just like acne for some) you can use nice smelling shampoos and you can also buy fragrances and perfumes for your dog from the pet store. If it is an unusually bad sour smell it may be an ear infection, but im afraid you cant do much about the "usual" dog smell. Sorry hope I helped a little

You can't get rid of it completely.....its a part of the dog and a part of life, however you can control it.

Do NOT bathe your dog constantly, its very hard on their coat and their skin.
Do NOT perfume your dog...the alcohol in perfume is very harmful to their coats.

Take your dog to the vet, make certain her/his ears are clean, teeth are clean and there is no underlying reason for your dog to have a 'bad' odor.
Then begin feeding your dog a GOOD, healthy diet.
After about a month of doing so, take your dog to a groomer and have it professionally bathed, trimmed, etc.

You might want to check into having your home steam cleaned while your dog is out. This will remove the scent from your home also, so the dog doesn't pick it up again.

Good luck and I hope you keep the dog

Not all dogs have odor.

Some dogs do, and why is the question. If it is a skin problem, that needs to be dealt with by a veterinarian. No amount of bathing may correct it. Some dogs have oily, smelly skin from improper diet or illness. It is important that you know WHY the dog smells.

If it is just a matter of dirt, brushing daily is needed to keep the hair clean and the skin in proper condition.

Aside from giving the dog a bath you can use baby wipes on them. If it's more than a normal odor smell their ears. Some dogs are prone to ear infections that smell really bad if thats the case take the dog to the vet it's easy to treat. Another possibility as to why the dog has a more than normal smell is bad breath. trust me it can get BAD my moms dog has bad teeth from age that are being removed and they are horrible they just sort of went with age but dirty teeth can smell really bad. try a full makeover with the dog. Give it a bath and make sure you dry it quite a bit with a towel then brush their teeth. also avoid treats that smell bad like rawhides that just smell nasty. dogs love them but their are alternatives that dogs will like such as busy bones and things like that that dont smell bad. The smell from bones stay on their mouth and face for awhile and can be pretty bad.

Too many baths dry out the coat and skin of a dog. However, you can use scented "doggie wipes" that are formulated for dogs and cats. I'm not sure that baby wipes are okay for dogs so check into them if you want to try them. There are a lot of brands of doggie wipes at the pet store, so you can easily try one until you like the scent. As I recall, there were also environmentally friendly types there as well.

LOL yea dogs seem to have that really bad smell huh? I know what you mean. The best way I have found to get rid of that smell is to bathe them. I bring my dog in the shower with me and get special god soap. Animals are like people, they need a good bath every now and then. Also, make sure they are eating good food, try to stay away for generic food. Get good, healthy, balanced diet food, like purina. It will help, I promise. Mainly, just bathe your dog.

I know what you mean, I have a beagle. Before everybody know there was a dog in the house now...they wonder if I got rid of her.

Here's what I did. I bathe her with baby shampoo and mist her with my perfume. I cleaned the carpet with vinegar and soap water and now she only goes outside to do her business.

After walking her I wipe her down with soap and water, face, legs and all. You keep this going and your problem will be solved...promise.
