You can prevent sparking by keeping all metal out of the microwave. If the sparking continues, you might consider getting the microwave checked by a professional or buying a new one.

Everyone else has said it - no metalllic objects in the microwave. If there aren't any metallic objects, then it is definitely time to get a new microwave. Sparking is NOT a good thing.

Keep metal stuff out of there.
If its just sparking when you are using it to cook non-metalic items, its time to replace the microwave.

Don't put any dishes in there with any metalic trim on it. Also, no foil or metal of any kind. These things will spark and potentially cause a fire.

Quit putting metal in there, and if there is no metal in there, get a new microwave.

Keep any metal (foil, twist ties) out of it.
If it's sparkign w/ just water in a glass cup in it, pitch it and part with $30 to get a new one.

Well it sounds as if you are putting metallic materials in it... If it is sparking without metal in it, your best bet is to buy a new one... If not, keep metallic materials out of it.
