Pretty basic question to be seen here in engineering. or any where. Any time the square footage, or millimeters, centimeters, meters, yards, acres, furlongs, miles, or any other unit of measurement is needed, the length multiplied by width will give the square area desired. Don't believe it, for your question, get 120, 1 foot square tiles and lay then out in a rectangle, 10 tiles wide, and 12 long, that way you can see that the math works.

If the length is 12 feet and the width is 10 feet then the square feet = 12 x 10 = 120 square feet.
