I am a bit of an old timer, have built several cars in the old days, nothing great, but here are specs of a few:
1957 California Highway Patrol Special body, Chevrolet. 1963 Chevy 425 HP 409 engine, 3.70:1 rear gear, 3 speed with overdrive tranny, pull 6500 rpm in 3rd/overdrive. Around 175 mph.
1968 Chevy Camero, 375 hp 398 engine, 3.31:1 rear gear. Bit over 7000rpm in top gear. Again, around 175 mph.
1953 Studebaker Lo-Boy coupe. 1963 Pontiac 389, 4 bolt main engine, Isky cam. tri power, big valve heads, factory headers. 3.70:1 rear gear. 7000 rpm safe max, aprox 155 mph.
1962 Chevy 409, DIO package (455 hp). 3.70:1 gear, 6500 rpm in 4th. Again, aprox 155.
1972 Pontiac GTO, 455 ci. Crower .505 lift can, 855 cfm Holley 4 barrel, Edelbrock manifold, heads cut 0.060 for compression. Factory headers. 3,54:1 rear end. Bit over 7000 rpm max, just about 160 mph.
1990 Kawasaki ZX11, 1109 cc, cam, 4>1 exhaust, have seen 185 on the road, just a bit under redline, still pulling. Stock gearing.
and:
Kawasaki Double, 2 1200cc engines, on gas, no fairing, average 200.022 mph. Best still air run, 204+, best run 206.351, with a tail wind. 200 MPH Club at Bonneville, in 1979.

actually that's 328 HP. Dodge R/T magnum 440 CI. 4 speed stick, 150 mph stock speedo. used to have one. Passed everything on the road-----except a gas station. ran it to 95 in 3rd gear and chickened out. I know it would have pegged the 150

My friend and I did 130 on a backroad. Then he noticed there was a police car behind us w/ his lights on! We pulled over as we turned left, but he kept going straight. My friend Sh*t bricks because he didn't have a liscence at the time!
Careful! I just read 2 days ago some guy in Europe got pulled over for doing 163 MPH!
If you get caught going too fast, that's reckless endangerment, and you could have your liscence revoked!
