Is it safe to put my home made BBQ sauce in mason jars?

I want to give it as christmas gifts. Any other suggestions???

You could certainly CAN the sauce in jars, so they seal and are safe to sit at room temp. It seems like a pricess, but it's really easy. Check http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC3040.htm or http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/how/can_home.html

If you are merely using the jars as containers, you will have to keep them refrigerated.

You will need to go through the whole canning process of sterilizing the jars and lids before putting the sauce in and then putting the jars of sauce in a hot (boiling) water bath to kill bacteria, etc.
