I would think it means he's a slob. He doesn't want you to see the mess.

Maybe he is trying to initiate sex. If you are not ready for that do not put yourself in a position for that to happen.
Hugs and kisses lead to sex. If he is not showing you affection in public (hand holding & light kissing) then he is probably just trying to get you in bed.
To find out if he really loves you, resist going into a house or another private area with him and see if it changes his interest in you.
