okay, so today at church in the junior high service we had a very emotinal and intense service. we talked about all the problems we had in life and how to just lay them in the hands of God. We watched scenes from "The Passion of the Christ" and the part where Jesus was crucified. But the thing I don't understand that I've always been pondering is why did God send His Son and not Himself instead?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God - He is Himself equal with God.

" In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made....And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:1-3,14

At some point, before time began and before anything was created, the Father and the Son and the Spirit took counsel together, and foreseeing the inevitability of free-willed creatures from falling into sin, purposed to send the Son from Heaven to offer Himself up in mankind's stead and suffer the just consequences of all their transgressions, so they might be forgiven and inherit eternal life.
Please read the Bible, especially the New Testament, and especially Paul's Letter to the Romans, as the Truth of the Gospel is unfolded there as nowhere else.

The world would not have been able to hold Him. He is so much more than we imagine. His righteousness is so pure that His appearance would have dissolved our very being. The fullness of God was in the Son, but the Son considered equality with God a thing to not be grasped so that he might enjoy his stay here and be truly on our level, being not only in very nature God but also being in very nature man. He was the Son of God and he took great delight in refering to himself as the Son of Man. It would have been seen as a very small sacrifice for God to have given His own existence here. The quality of the sacrifice is realized in the way Christ emptied himself of his own Divinity.

God made Jesus in the likeness of man so He could feel, suffer, lust and be tempted (all sins) but He never acted upon them, thus making Him perfect abd sinless in the eyes of His father. Jesus went to the cross, which was predetermined from the beginning. Our sins were covered by the blood of Christ so that we may have a direct relationship with God.

The truth is we are created in God's image meaning we have a mind, a body, and a spirit. God has three parts also, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

We do not know the answers to all the questions a million people would ask, only what He has chosen to reveal to us. You mean why didn't God the Father send Himself.. He sent God the Son. Do I understand this? No, it's a mystery.

You need to understand the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
God is all three!
Therefore, Jesus is God!
So, in reality, God did go to the Cross for our sins. The way God did this was, He took on the 'limitations' of humankind, and came to earth as a baby, born of the virgin Mary. He walked on this earth for 33 years, teaching, preaching, healing, doing miracles, loving the unlovable, and finally, he went to the cross to give His life to save us from our sins. This was His gift of grace to us.
Understanding the 'mystery' of the Trinity is difficult. But as Paul taught, today we see in a mirror dimly.... but one day, we will see face to Face. I hope this helped you to understand a little better. God bless you as you strive to learn more about your Savior and Lord.

Christ Jesus “though . . . in the form of God . . . emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:5-8).

Jesus is God.

Because if it was God that came to earth and died, who would have resurrected him? Jesus was only given the ability to use Gods power, he didn’t have any himself. That’s why he said for his father in the heavens to receive the glory.

Because if it was God that came to earth and died, who would have resurrected him? Jesus was only given the ability to use Gods power, he didn’t have any himself. Also, is Jesus was God – why did he pray to himself? Why did he have to worship? Why did he say he was on earth to do his ''fathers will'' and not his own? If they were the same – some form of Trinity wouldn’t he have said ''our will.''

If God presented Himself to us as He is, we would not comprehend. In fact, God does present Himself to us every day and we don't comprehend.

Jesus, God incarnate, is God's act to become a human like us so as to talk to us face to face and still - so many of us don't comprehend.
