Not even close!! If you look at the number of bases we had in the 80's as opposed to what we have now, you would be amazed!! We closed 100's of bases around the world throughout the 90's, and we are still closing them today. Just look at past and present BRAC lists, and you will see.

Nope,

And most of the countries, that they say there is a american military base in,

Only have 3 to 8 members of the US military in them.

Ive never understood it, the US assign's 3 officers to a country and we all of a sudden have a military base there.

But most countries have Officers assigned to the US,

But no one says they have military bases assigned here.

If that were the case, we would have not closed down many bases.

We left Panama; we left the philippines; we are very drastically cutting our forces in Germany and Korea over the next 3-4 years.... need I go on?

No, the U.S. government concentrates on deterring enemy attacks by having a strategic force that can retaliate on any enemy no matter where in the world he, she, or they is / are located. In order to maintain such a force, we need numerous bases world wide for strategic refueling and redundancy.

Another post writes - "Any nation with decency freedom or liberty would never stand for a foreign military on its soil."

I would argue that it is the United States military that brings decency, freedom and liberty to these countries.

No. And if we are we won't succeed. Unless of course, you consider an embassy a military base. But if you did, you'd be wrong.

No. In fact we have actually been closing some bases down in a lot of countries.

We have bases based on strategic needs. For example, we don't need bases in Canada or in most places in Africa, because there is no strategic reason for it.

Yes, and it is VERY close to doing so.

AT THE CURRENT POINT, there is about 130 (out of only 190) Countries with US Military Personell in them (700+ military bases). Any base closings have only been a PR move. And the stats above I posted still remain.

The US Military has bases in 63 countries. Brand new military bases have been built since September 11, 2001 in seven countries.

In total, there are 255,065 US military personnel deployed Worldwide.

These facilities include a total of 845,441 different buildings and equipments. The underlying land surface is of the order of 30 million acres. According to Gelman, who examined 2005 official Pentagon data, the US is thought to own a total of 737 bases in foreign lands. Adding to the bases inside U.S. territory, the total land area occupied by US military bases domestically within the US and internationally is of the order of 2,202,735 hectares, which makes the Pentagon one of the largest landowners worldwide (Gelman, J., 2007).

For what reason, there are many reasons and many excuses.
. World Police
. World Influence on parent Countries Leaders
. World Influence on parent Countries Policy
. Points towards world government
. Other protection agreements (world police)

Any nation with decency freedom or liberty would never stand for a foreign military on its soil. It is the same as a man allowing another man to sleep in his bed alongside his wife.

No, only those who need us and we need them. Every country we have been in has increased there revenue to the extent that they are all above the third world country status, this includes, Germany, Japan, Korea, Phillipines, Panama.

You should have been around during the cold war. We had many, many more bases overseas during that time period. Actually now, we have very few.
