A nice store?? You can find the nicest store possible, and you will still be supporting puppymills and backyard breeders with your dog purchase. Do NOT buy from a petstore.. Check breeders in your area, or check your local shelter. If you want to support breeders that breed for money, without regard to health, temperament, proper structure or anything else, that's the dog you get at the petstore.. Kinda like the bottom of the barrel..

Totally gotta disagree with the people on this board. My brother is a yorkie breeder (in Louisiana, btw) and he and a pet store owner have a deal so that she sells his puppies. He's a reputable breeder with good, healthy, high quality pups. She's a businesswoman. It works well for them, because he's not good at selling.
If you want a yorkie, please give me a private e-mail and we can discuss where my brother lives and whether that's close enough for you.

Contact a reputable Yorkie breeder, and avoid pet stores. Pet stores often obtain their dogs from puppy mills.

NOWHERE.
You do NOT buy a dog from "a store".
You go to a RESPONSIBLE breeder, or you go to the shelter.
You don't buy from a pet store (which gets its puppies from a puppy mill and causes the suffering of thousands of dogs), and you don't buy from a backyard breeder (who uses their dogs as an ATM to make a quick buck off of ignorant buyers).

I agree with Geaux. Try Petfinder or a rescue organization. There are so many good dogs looking for their "Forever Home".

actually, if you live around new orleans, I'm pretty sure I saw one on craigslist like last night.
Or you could just get a sunday paper and check for puppies available in the classifieds.
