It acts like it has a fuel problem but no mechanic has been able to diagnose it. It only happens after about 15 to 20 miles. Before that it mostly runs fine, although it will stall easily when cold.

All fuel filters have been replaced. Virtually every sensor on the engine has been replaced. New plugs, plug wires & ignition module. I have used injector cleaner additives in the gas.

Someone suggested it could be a bad coil. I'm wondering if it's a bad computer or fuel pump.

What do you think is most likely?

Sounds like you have a fuel pressure problem. most common fault of that would be the electric fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank. Being the vehicle is 20 years old, it is more likely that the pump is about worn out. I suggest you get it replaced as soon as possible so that it wont drop you on the highway. It is already giving you warning signs right now by stalling. If no mechanic was able to figure that out, I would suggest that you not go back to them ever again.

My uncle had a problem with an 85 Ranger. The run portion of the ignition switch went bad and it would just stall. It would restart back up but eventually went totally out. He found out that if he held the switch just barely from going to the start position the vehicle ran okay. If he let go it would stall out. He replaced the switch and it took care of the problem. Look for any vacuum leaks on the engine. A cracked vacuum hose will cause stalling too.

Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and drive it 15 or 20 miles and confirm your suspicions... it will either confirm or eliminate the pump possibility and allow you to further diagnose your problem... good luck
