They only want you to take the Bible literally when it suits their argument. When it does not or when it conflicts itself. Then is when they claim it is made up of Parables.

Some people feel it's there right to pick and choose what they will believe, and what they can call "allegorical", but I just don't know where they think they get that kind of authority to judge which parts of the Bible are to be taken literally or not! Seems kind of arrogant in MY humble opinion!
But when a parable is told, the meaning is given in the text, so there's no question as to it's actual meaning.
But please remember this much - our lack of understanding of what something means does not preclude that a meaning actually exists.
For instance, a 2nd grader may start learning how to add and subtract, but just because she doesn't understand calculus doesn't mean that calculus isn't a legitimate branch of mathematics!

well the Bible was written a long ago, so a lot of the things they did back then is veery different from days now.
how can you tell whay it's really saying?
by context.
Example:
in the Bible it says that if a son or a daughter refuses to obey their parents, they must die.
of course we're not going to kill a teenager nowadays, but you understand that a child must obey his/her parents.

They pick and choose that with which they agree. This proves that morals are not derived from the bible. WE are the judge of what is right and wrong. It is not dictated by some ancient book of fairytales.

People tend to pick and choose the parts of it that are applicable to the point they are trying to prove, or to the lesson they are trying to teach, and if that means lending their own interpretation to it, then so be it. It's been happening ever since the book was written.

the bible was intrepreted when it was written thru the church, remember jesus sent them out as a teaching church, so the doctrine of faith was already known and being spread, the bible came later. you are not suppost to intrepret scripture for yourself, the scripture says we need someone to teach us what it means.

There are parts to be taken literally, some are symbolism, and some are allegory. Study and you will begin to understand which is which and what each type has to teach you.

Those that tell you that want you to keep coming to them for the answers. That has been going on for centuries. Part of the "control" process.

What difference does it make. If one does not take it all literally then he/she apparently rejects God since he/she rejects His Word.
