Simple. Beyond listening to English speakers and reading English literature, here are a few tips:

Speaking: Ask your close friends to correct you whenever you say something wrong or weird (at an appropiate time and place, of course)
Listen to a word being spoken by an English speaker. Try to repeat it as close as possible (again, at home or something!)
Watch television.

Reading: read magazines; they generally use words that are commonly used in daily life. The newspaper works as well.

Good luck!

Well obviously one of the best ways to learn would be in a formal class setting.
However, another really good way to do this is to find and English speaking pen pal over the internet. This way if you have any questions about things you don't understand in class you can ask it to them. Plus they will be able to teach you cool things like slang and idiomatic expressions that you will never be able to learn in a classroom. I've done this with Spanish and Portuguese and have just started with French. Believe me, it helps a lot.
If you have any questions about good pen pal websites or if you want me to help you with your English send me an e-mail.
Good Luck!

Read, read, read. Read the "Great Books". Study a foreign language --preferably French or Spanish. Take several courses on writing.
