I am wanting to know the Christian opinion on my view of a few different parts of the bible. Which i will ask about in seperate questions.
I will be honest i am a Pagan, but i mean you no disrespect.

Ok~ In the bible there is a quote~ Thou shalt have no other Gods before me~ Is the bible not confirming the existance of other Gods?
Thanking you in advance for your informative and respectful answers.
Bright Blessings
Ariel

The bible acknowledges that people believed in other gods but like the new testament says but I cannot find it right off hand there are many gods but they are not gods at all because there is only one God. That is a paraphrase. sorry i could not find the passage but that is one thing I never preached on so it is harder to find.

There was a prophet I forget which that challenged the pagans to offer a sacrifice but they could not light the fire their gods had to light it and when their gods failed the prophet before asking the bible God to burn the offering miraculous he drenched the offering with lots of water then asked god the fire came down from heaven and burned the burnt offering where the pagans gods never answered thus proving supposedly that God is one God and there are no others.

That is the Christian way of thinking, sorry I know you asked for Christians but I was one and was a preacher..

This is a good question not just because there is one commandment that says "you shall have no other gods before me" but because He clearly makes a distinction between gods and idols.
Several other posters have said "oh, he means don't put false gods or worship cows or TV or money" as the reasoning behind the commandment. Yet if that were true, why does the next commandment say "you shall have no other idols before me"? What, then, is the difference between other gods and other idols. If they are the same thing, why say it twice?
I always thought this was an interesting point, and wondered if it did mean there were other gods (or perhaps other angels trying to set themselves us as gods?). Clearly there is something up, as there is a point made of mentioning both "gods" and "idols".

Me thinks you think too much. Faith with is essential to belief in Christianity or God and for that matter any philosophy including Apathetic Agnosticism. My opinion on Atheists is they are very conflicted and may spend more time thinking about God than Christians. I am a Christian that believes Christ appeared in many forms not just the Biblical view. His(Christ's revelations) are found in every major and minor religion.Christ said that those that followed His words were saved.I'm also part Cherokee so I see no difference praying to the Great Spirit, the Creator than to the Christian, Hebrew Muslim God.

Hello : )

You are Right. The 1st of the Ten Commandments is "Thou Shalt Have No Other gods Before Me" Just like there are other demons, besides the real Devil... There are also images or idols that ignorant or rebellious people choose to worship. That doesn't make them a "G od" If you notice the scriptures in the Christian Bible, God is always spelled with a capital G. In reference to other pretense idols besides the 'True' and loving God. I have talked with Pagan religions before on Pagan chat rooms and honestly, they are more willing and open to talk about God than Christian chat rooms. There are always arguements over the milk rather than the meat, in the Christian chat rooms. Why not, at least, find you a King James Version Bible and read about why God chose for us to haves no other "gods" before him. Any false or lying divination can make itself appear to be a 'god' When you learn about the God of Israel, you will see why choosing other gods will make one unhappy.

God's Blessing be upon you, as well.

Truth is one. To proclaim your truth is true, and my true is true logically states one is truth the other a lie.

God is One. All Truth, All Love, All Completeness.

God recognizes that humanity had fallen from Grace, thus became confused and began to worship many lesser elements of God in objects they created into smaller gods. Smaller is the sense of less completeness. Some contain elements that are even found without any godliness. These are devoid of God entirely.

Through the covenant of Moses God was restating His dominion over ALL humanity once again. He only is the Creator. He is the First, and the Last. The Beginning and The End. The Supreme Being.

Each of us whether Christian or not are the creation of GOD.
We are made in the image of God. We have the light of God within us. Each expresses this light in relation to the Grace that we are open to receive from God.

Through God you (a pagan) and I (a Catholic) and ALL humanity are connected as part of God's creation.
Let us pray for the unity of the Holy Spirit to unite ALL to the One True God.

The other gods is what ever you put in front of the Lord. It does not mean there are other gods. God put all things into existence and the scripture also says that all other idols were formed by man's hands out of materials that God made. What ever you spend the majority of your time and where you spend your money is what you serve and is you god. This is the teachings of the bible. It talk alot about false gods. Ones that do not exist.

Thanks for your question. I hope this helps . I love your respective attitude. It is nice to have respect for others and different beliefs in this forum.

Yes, it does say that.

In Genesis 1:26 it says, "And God said, Let us make man in our Image." Just food for thought.

There is mention of many gods in the Bible, mostly man made. Then there is Satan who tries to claim to be god but most of us know better.

Think about it... God knew that man would worship the creation instead of the Creator. God knew that man was capable of worshiping anything, i.e. pantheism.

The original language does discriminate between God with a capital G, and god with the little g.

Fact is, as people, whatever we worship in our mind is our god. A very popular malady of this day seems to be money.

A god is anything one places in honor in ones' heart. Also, Israel (to whom this passage in Exodus 20 is written) has struggled with MANY gods in her long history.
Remember, it is being read from a human perspective. A god can be pleasure; work; wisdom; entities; sex; women; music...anything that fills the gap in ones' heart. It literally means an idol or carved image.
A very good question, & I'm glad Pangel starred it!
Hestia; the word you mentioned from Psalm 82:1 can refer to a number of different things...rulers, magistrates, angels, judges, mighty nations, or other spiritual beings. There are many levels in the spirit realm, & G-d does not deny this. He is simply saying we should worship none of them except Him alone. Even Hestia is a powerful diety, this I do not deny.
