It can. In a hot house. That's why they put it on at the last minute. If you don't want your whipped topping to melt, take the whipped topping and mix it with a little vanilla instant pudding - using just half the milk called for in the pudding recipe. That will help hold the whipped topping so it won't droop and melt.
