I need to do an original oratory speech (7-10 minutes long, memorized). My teacher said we need to pick a topic that hasn't been covered too much like abortion, captial punishment, etc. I decided to do a speech about intolerance and hate since I do.

How can I make it persuasive? Or state my topic in a way to make it persuasive. She said it can be informative, though most oratory speeches are persuasive. Which one do you think is best for my topic?

Can you give me many good sources (No Wikipedia) to help me with facts, stories, expert solutions, etc. to help back up my speech? I was thinking maybe the case with Matthew Shepard is a case of this and the Westboro Baptist Church.

Any advices, tips, etc. to give to a novice like me?

As of now, I need to create a basic outline.

I. Introduction

II. Problems

III. Why problem exist

IV. Solutions

V. Conclusion

Or an outline along that.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this.

You should say that calling "sin" sin, is not hate or intolerance. That the PC movement has gone to far, especially when you consider that people can be punished if they tell the truth. Yes, many talk with hate when they talk about many subjects. But you must distinguish between hate and non hate. The exact same words can have this exact difference.
I can ask my son "Who did you play with today?" and he answers " a little black boy". This has no bad meaning to him, just a physical description. A KKKer can say the exact words and they are full of hate, innuendos and stereotypes - hate.

It is often not the words, but the emotions behind them. The problem is that the laws are made on the words only.

Try making it on impulsive response. The topic is easily covered, and it's broad enough to give you leeway for improv. Your best bet for a recource would probablly be a local library (preferablly a college library.) If you go to a college library check around first, you might find something you really enjoy and could carry on about for 20 minutes. Convince people on why your topic is good or bad, with the introduction being a completely nonbiased thesis statement and explanation of your topic. The problems should be under why problems exist. You need to show that they're actually there before you can elaborate. Solutions not necissarily... Try something more along the lines of explanations. Ways to show people the problem can be in their personal life.
