I'm looking for a boyfriend, but I'm definitely not desperate (and nothing online--don't even try!) I'm 18 and I mean this in a non-cocky way: I've got a really good body (skinny but curvy), a wild boyish sense of humor, and I'm really smart yet goofy. Sometimes I feel like the girls who end up with boyfriends are the really mousy, boring ones. Should I downplay the dirty jokes I make/laugh at and be less clever, show off my body less? I honestly feel like the reason I dont have a boyfriend is because I act like a boy who looks like a really girly girl!

Guys always like girls that act like girls.

Girls who are acting like one of the guys are rarely looked at as they want to be so knock it off and see how things change!
There was this one Christmas party and my friend told me that I had to stop being one of the guys, I just liked to wear jackets and she thought the guys needed some shaking up. She said no pants (as in long pants) and get girly. So I got a gorgeous dress spagetti straps and took off the jacket had the high heels and my hair done. I danced all night! All night. It was one of the most fun times that I have ever had. So try the girl thing for a bit. It has it's +'s too! Don't dumb down. They'll figure it out anyway! Skip the dirty jokes- the guys while they may not tell you (you are a girl!) think that's their private right to tell them to each other (it's like a way they measure themselves so leave it alone, you are stepping into man territory!) Enjoy the girl space it can be a glorious place to live too!

My guess would be that you haven't made it apparent that you are available and looking for a boyfriend. Also, if you act like a guy around other guys, they'll treat you like a guy, and probably won't even think that you'd be interested in a relationship.
I'm a 19 year old guy, and I don't think I would hesitate to go out with you, if what you say about yourself is true. The only thing I can think that you're doing wrong is the "dirty humor". Guys expect that from guys, but might fins it somewhat immature coming from a girl.
It all really depends on what kind of guy you're looking for, I guess. Truthfully, there should be plenty of guys interested, maybe just make it more apparent that you are interested.

Yeah, you might try being a little less aggressive, can the dirty jokes, and leave more to the imagination when you dress. Some guys really groove on girls like you, and others are scared off. Try and reach a happy medium -- not too flashy, but not boring either. Just somewhere comfortably in between. Believe it or not, some guys are really shy and lack self-confidence, even though society pictures all men as jocks and lady killers. 'Taint necessarily so! Some like 'em hot, and others -- not!!

If you act yourself then someone you are compatible with should definitely come along. I dont mean this in the wrong way but if your going out in super skimpy clothes and always have dirty jokes, guys may mistake you for someone who wants a one night stand and not a lasting relationship, its happened to me.

alot of guys go for mousy / boring girls because its safe.

If you are wanting something serious I would stay away from the 18 yr. old. You are at slightly different stages in life and if you are thinking about a long-term relationship she might not be one to start one with. She has at least a few more years before she will start thinking that way. Date her, have fun with her but just dont be her "boyfriend". As for the "on break gf" I would tell her you want to see other people and that you are tired of walking on egg shells.

guys 18-24 dont really know what they want in a woman yet. they shift from one girl to another like shirts. Relax, you are doing the best thing you can, be yourself. dont change who you are to "get a boyfrient" if you do, in the end you will not be happy. sound like you are smart and have a pretty good understanding of who you are. dont change, be yourself and the right guy will find you. dont change who you are for anyone.
