I have the same problem and this is what is helping me. I lost one pants size in 1 week. Just before getting up in the morning she might be able to do lite crunches. The crunches where your shoulders don't come up too far from the bed. Those are great for the abdomen and back and everyday she can increase the amount she does. Sit down excercises are great for the upper body. She can do arm curls with lite weights. I diligently tried to go in the pool more often this past summer and just did laps and whatever movement that came to mind. The more I went in the pool the more flexible I became and it helped. I didn't overdo it tho. When I felt pain I stopped. If her doctor says don't swim well then don't do it. Walking too much and aerobics, and the bike doesn't work out for me, I didn't do very well with the yoga class either. To join a gym would be be a waste of money at this point for me. At the hospital there are some classes geared towards people with injuries that might be worth checking out. Has she tried walking short distances. She's smart for wanting to lose weight as being heavy is not good on the knees. There might be some good sit down excercise videos. Of course she needs to drink lots of water and keep a good healthy diet. I always hear that eating 5 small meals a day is good when you're trying to lose weight. I've cut out bread and potatoes and sweets amongst other things I don't usually have anyway. You're a good daughter for wanting to help your mom. Good luck!

any non-weight bearing exercise (biking is best) or she can use an elliptical machine if you have a gym membership. other than that the best thing to do is go for a walk, the intensity doesn't necessarily have to be high as long as she does a decent distance. start easy and add distance little by little until she gets used to it.
she should also follow a healthy diet and cut back on empty calories (calories with no nutritional value; ex: soda, potato chips, etc.). i recommend drinking lots of water and incorporating a flexibility regimen also. good luck!

Can your mom talk to her doctor about prescribing some meds that help boost metabolism and surpress our appetite. I also went on a pill called allie that helped the fat from food just pass.
I gained about 30 lbs last year and couldn't loose it. I went to phentermine and used the allie and lost all the weight in about three months and felt great

Have she tried lifting weights? You can drop 3 pounds a week by lifting for 30 minutes every other day!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

dropping 15 kilos in 2 weeks isn't risk-free. you ought to be thinking extra approximately 2-3 kilos a week. It seems such as you're already eating healthily, so in case you opt to drop extra pounds, you ought to boost your workout. strolling is often good, yet yet another determination it quite is worked nicely for me is Jillian Michaels' "30 Day Shred" DVD.

There are some aquatic aerobics type classes that you don't have to know how to swim for. Those are good on your joints. And she can walk, I assume. She also needs to reduce her calorie intake.

Pilates - it's very low impact and uses her body as resistance. Plus it helps strengthens her core which leads to better posture.
