if they still had the old points system jeff gordon would have 6 championships instead of 4 to go along with his 81 wins ,honestly i think this system was put in place to keep gordon from getting 7 championships , i guess this makes all the earnhardt fans happy but anyone who has any sense at all can see gordon is probally the best driver ever to strap into a nascar . ( and i am by no means a gordon fan)

The 12 car chase system is a big joke, just like letting slow drivers get in a race just because they are a past champion.
When they start the chase, all the other owners, sponsors, and drivers should just park their cars for the rest of the year and see how many fans fill the stands then, for the greedy, money hungry "France's"!
I use to be a race car driver in the 70's (raced against K. Schrader when he was just a kid), and you ran a time trial, and made the feature, or you ran a heat race, the semi-feature and if you didn't finish in the top two or three in the semi- feature you were through for the night---- no feature for running too slow.
Nascar and the Frances's need to get back to racing because they are killing a great Sport. Look at the ratings and the grandstands! They're both falling off! Ratings because the races are just follow the leader anymore, and the grandstands because the ticket prices are so over priced it's just plain ludicrous.
Maybe it's time Nascar did like the world of outlaws? Run a full show and race every lap to make the feature, and put on a good day of racing.

Sound as if they were going by the old system, things wouldn't be any better. From what I've heard, under the old system Jeff Gordon would be in front by 200+ points going into Homestead. But it doesn't matter. EVERYONE knew going into the season that you're gonna get extra points for the win. Well, guess what, they guy with the most wins is about to take home the Cup for the 2nd year in a row. The 48 team played the game the best & they are going to be rewarded.

Right on!
My other question has been how many championships would Petty, Earnhardt and other drivers have if they had raced under the chase format.
The chase is a big joke. How can a guy be in like sixth place and leapfrog ahead of everyone else when the "playoffs" start? No other sport has a situation like that.

Under the Old Points System Gordon would still be about 200 ahead of Johnson even with Johnson winning the last 4 !!!!!!
