It might be new in your school, but many schools already have PDA rules. I hate to tell you, but I'm a high school teacher. I'll tell you about some experiences I've had.

A lot of teenagers are unaware of how their displays of affection are not pleasant for the rest of the world to watch. When you're in love, you're only thinking about yourself and the other person and you think your hugs and kisses are wonderful. No one else, unless they're a bit creepy, enjoys watching you. Your mind is not on school, which it should be. Make a date for after school.

It's also common now for friends to give a big hug in greeting. That's nice and friendly, but it's problematic in some ways. When I am in the hall, trying to prod kids to get to their classes on time, there are big traffic jams of kids stopping to give each other bear hugs. They get to class and have to hug their friends instead of sitting down and getting to the business at hand. Boy-girl hugs are an issue. I had a talk with one of my classes one day about that. I told them that they may think I'm totally old-school, but girls may think they are "just friends" with a guy and a hug is just friendly, but in reality, the guys are enjoying a free feel. The girls got all annoyed at that and disagreed with me. I noticed some of the boys get kind of quiet. I asked what they thought. One of the boys finally spoke up and said, "Yeah, she's right." Then the other boys felt free to nod and agree with him. The girls were really offended, realizing that they were being used.

It's normal for teenagers to want a hug. In most homes, there's a feeling that you're getting too big and too old for a hug, even though you need that hug a day. The school is just concerned that kids are needlessly getting too physically close to each other and wasting school time.

Do you notice that the boys don't give each other bear hugs? Teachers aren't allowed to give students hugs, even though I've had times when one of my students is going through a bad time and all my motherly instincts come out. Love without physical contact for a few hours. You'll live.

Completely ridiculous. What is the reasoning behind this? Is it a health issue? Is it a sexual kind of thing? If a person doesn't like being hugged then they can just say in a polite manner that they don't want to be hugged by that person! They don't need to go to a teacher and say:

Person: "This person is constantly hugging me!"

Teacher: "Your right! We need a ban for hugging!"

Stupid, I don't know what they'll come up with next...

That makes no sense at all to me. I know girls who hug each other when the see each other...And a young man and young
ladies should be able to hug..it's a normal reaction..Maybe there are a few messin' it up for everyone...bumppin'&Grindin' doesn't belong at school. I would get a list of signatures and take up with the school! Everone has rights..as long as it doesn't interfer with someone elses rights.

I understand why they started the ban. People were getting late to class and causing conjestion in the hallways by hugging. Another reason that it is considered a "PDA". I don't know what to think of it. I think they should be allowed to hug....I guess, but not in the middle of the hallway.

I have not heard of it, but I am not surprised. I was not allowed to hold hands with my boyfriend when I was in school. I could almost understand the no holding hands but people hug friends so I do not see the point in that. Schools should encourage peace and love, but they aren't. They are trying to make close minded children.

If you are talking about the incident in Illinois where the girl got in trouble because she gave a girlfriend a hug, then from what I have read and seen, it seems really stupid to me! She gave this friend a hug, and nothing sexual at all! GOD! Please save us from all the politically correct people!!

It is ridiculous. I saw that clip where the 13 year old got detention for it. We need some kindness in this world, why get punished for it? What was the rationale behind the ban?

Its ridiculous. The schools need a reality check. I'm too old for school now, but I would make a joke out of it i.e. every student should shake hands instead of hug.

I think it is a shame, and that we should be very careful about these new rules. You know what happen when they took GOD out of the schools they invited the devil/evil in. When a student can kill 8 people at a time the devil is alive and well.
