"I feel like we have buried our daughter in many different ways. ...I told your father back in March that we had lost you and that we need to mourn you." This was in an email from my mother in response to some family problems we've been having concerning my boyfriend. So i'm just wondering what other people think about what she said....

For clarification...i'm 22, my boyfriend is 24. I'm completely financially responsible for myself and am currently in graduate school getting my master's.

haha. im filipino and i married a white guy. my parents said the same thing. they call that disowning right? well, i think its rude. parents are supposed to be there for you whether they agree with your decisions in life or not. apparently, both our parents say, "our way or no way". well, i said "f*ck that". i left. im perfectly content and happy with my life.

Without knowing the whole story, it sounds like your mother is very, very, very hurt.

Giving up all hope her daughter will stop making bad decisions, or decisions that mom disagrees with is pretty sad.

I hope I dont sound like dear abbey, hmmm, maybe dear C0w60y!

But life is short and I really hope the two of you remeber who or what is more important in life. Your love for each other, inspite of all your differences and disappointments.

As many times as I higged my mother and told her I loved her, i wish she was still here so I could do it & say it again.

I have not spoken to my mother or father for 8 months now,and i can tell you i have had peace in my life,i always had those remarks made to me,,,,but if you feel as if you still want contact with her write an email back to her,,or if your happy with yourb/f and it gets threatened when she is around you have alot off thinking to do,do you want the hassle everytime you see her,or are you happy since she has been out off your life,,,i think as hard as it seems the remarks she has made would tell me everything and not bother with her,i think what she said was really really nasty, hurtful, and unforgivable,,,how do you get on with your father????,but what ever you decide i wish you luck xxxxx

She is very concerned about your relationship with your boyfriend. Since I do not know why she feels that your boyfriend is not good for you, I can not really provide you any real feedback.

All I can say is that she cares for you and really hates your boyfriend and does not want to have a relationship with you.

remember family is thicker than water unless they are bad parents.

Sounds like she misses the you she knows , people change, sometimes things are said that hurt so bad it takes time for the wound to heal. I think she misses "you". Remember boys will come and go but family is forever. Good luck.

she probably feels that she has lost you to your boyfriend - your mom may not like this person and feel that you have changed in someway and see that it is because of your boyfriend. just a guess - you did not provide whats going on w/the boyfriend so im guessing

Your mother sounds really SAD and seems to be trying to deal with her "losses". I'm not saying this is the best choice of expressing her loss but it is what it is. What is your part in this and what do you need to do to take care of YOURSELF?

She sounds desperate to find her "little girl" (you) that she longs to have back. If you're a teen who is rebellious this is probably why she said it.

sounds like she's trying to pin a guilt trip on you. i don't know what happened but whatever it was, she didn't like it and wants to have her way.
