I spent time with my kids (as I always do) and we laughed and laughed all day long!
Love those little things that mean so much!

I woke up and remembered that today is Veteran's Day in the US. I personally am a disabled vet and I thought of the many young men and women who are away from their families, either in another country, doing what their government needs, or here in the US in hospitals recovering from injuries.
I remembered when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s and my father was in the Army. I thought`about how often he was gone to wars, and watching the news and seeing the Veitnam casualty reports while he was gone. I remembered growing up on the military bases and seeing burned soldiers and amputees and 18-19 y/o men in wheelchairs, and how they were proud they had served their country. I thought about my high school which was on an army base and on the same road as the national military cemetary, and watching it fill up over the years and how the flag never left half mast.
But mostly I thought about my father... he served his whole life, and died very young as a result of his service in the Army. I asked him if he ever regretted joining the Army, and he said he never did. I especially remember the big smile he had on his face as he swore me in with my first commission and gave me his second lieutenant bars.
After thinking of all the losses, and all the pains, I remembered with pride, my family's history of service going back to the revolutionary war, and how I am also glad that I had the chance to serve my country, like my father and grandfather and the many before me.
I was and am inspired by the spirit of service and self-sacrifice that the young people of this country have, and how I am proud to be from a country where such service exist. While I may not agree with the current deployments, I fully support our men and women in the service

I went to Forum and Platform (call them Sunday School and Church Service parallels) at the Ethical Society today, and everything was interesting. In Forum, we played the first section of the Zeitgeist movie and then discussed it.
In Platform, our leader, who is a very bright, very nice young woman, gave an interesting speech about Galileo as a sort of "Ethical Saint." We do not actually have saints, but she was using the term to create a parallel. Galileo was a courageous character who moved science forward, and then "officially" recanted to save himself from the Inquisition. But in the end, he said, "Even so, it moves," meaning the earth around the sun.
Since the Ethical Culture movement is very big on reason and facts, and their significance in making ethical decisions, those who move it out ahead of "faith" are our heroes.

I got my hands into the dirt! I planted a delphinium and a sage plant on my deck, I separated my dahlia bulbs, and I transplanted several indoor plants. I did this with the sun shining after a rainy and gray Saturday. Everything was wet and fresh, my dog was growling and whining at a squirrel that was teasing her up in a tree, and I cast my circle to the Quarters, East, South, West, North, Air, Fire, Water,Earth, and Spirit.
:D
a very nice Sunday!

I woke up !!!! Yup, that's one of the most uplifting things that can happen because if you don't wake up, there is not an opportunity to experience beauty and joy.
All of my family are safe. I had a great meal with my family, enjoyed church and now I am reading some great stories on the web.
I don't need much to be happy and satisifed!

The sermon at church today was given by a guest speaker who has become noted for the Bible study that he created some years ago called Crossways. He spoke about stewardship and how misleading it is to think that we should give a certain percentage of our money to God, because we belong to God and all we have belongs to God and you cannot give him anything. However, what we should do is decide how we should minister here in the world and figure out how to manage our money so that we minimize how much we "rob" from God. Very uplifting.

I got up, did laundry and went back to sleep as Sunday really is a work day for me, at least temporarily, as I am working graveyard shift until the xmas holiday break. However, on one of my genealogical forums I contribute to, a picture of my grandmother was chosen as the sites picture of the week so that made my day!
