what speed should i start at to feel comfy and then work my way up? i feel that the 3.0 speed makes me tired too quickly but i don't want to start out to slow because then my workout won't be beneficial...it will be in vain.

ok i have a treadmill and i use it 3-5 times a week...
1.i get my mp3 player cause it gets me going
2. water!!!
first do stretches before anything. you could hurt your body if you over to it.
breathing is a big issue. if you breathe wrong you wont be able to stay on as long and your chest will hurt.
start walking... dont jog if your not comfy.
some people are great walkers, some are great joggers..
but some people are better at swimming or biking

find something that you enjoy...

i would do a mile a day.. or at least work up to it...
treadmill wont make you loose alot of weight alone..
try watching what you eat AND do the treadmill.
3,500 calories= 1 pound!!!!
drink water and keep it up. you wont notice untill for a couple of weeks.. but in 2-3 months you will see a change

The recomendation by most is 90 minutes three times a week. This is a little extreme. The best way is to work up to that 90 minutes. I don't know what your fitness level is but if you get tired after 5 minutes then start slow, increase the time by 5 minutes each week. Read a book or listen to music. Something to take your mind off of the workout. Also have little spirts thoughout your workout, for instance if you can run then everyonce in a while run until you can't then slow down to a walk and recover then run again till you can't and slow back down to a walk. This would be something to do when you start walking for 30 minutes or more a day.

Check with a doctor before starting any exercise program to make sure that you don't put yourself at risk.

Set up a TV in front of it so you can walk 30 minutes to an hour during a certain time each day.

We walk evenings from 7 to 7:30 each evening. Walking outside (you can drive a route and measure off 1 mile to two miles) is much nicer than walking on a treadmill.

Maybe try it a little slower at first and over time make increasments in speed? Get an mp3 player or put a tv in front of you, to keep your mind off it. Also you can get a magazine and put it over the numbers. I would suggest 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week. You must be on a proper diet for this to be worthwhile.

Start with 1.0mph for 5 minutes then add each until you get to 3.0.Then add to the 5 minutes. If you get tired
stop. I have a friend who started at 1.0mph for 3 minutes it took her about three weeks to get to 3.0 for 10 minutes but she weighted over 3 hundred pounds. She has lost weight. She is up to 30 minutes 5 times a week. She takes weekends off. Watch want you eat.

A person should get at least 20 minutes of cardio a day (walking). As far as staying on the treadmill for the twenty go at your own pace. If you can calmly talk at a certain speed its just right for you, but if you can sing on that speed level than it is just way to easy. to increase your speed day by day you should try to challenge yourself half a speed up or just one speed up.

Good luck!
