Be as involved as you can be. Make sure they know your expectations. Praise them when they do well.

Be involved with the parents with any decisions. Show that you care about the kids and want to help them when they are visiting you. Mature communication between the parents/step-parents makes it easier for a child of divorce.

Well what I plan to do when I have kids is set up a kind of reward system. Like whenever they get something good allow them to do a certain thing or give them a credit-type thing toward something they want.

Tell them that you will give them money for every A the get on a report card. Kids love money. And if they bring a grade up give a reward.

Show intrest in their school work, be positive about good grades and tell them how proud you are of them. Help them out with their home work, go to the parent teacher conferences with the father.

if they like you, then bride them and if they don't like you just say whatever u not my real kids anyways u can fail in life...that would be good motivation for them to prove your wrong
