I have a friend who recently took her own life by overdose. She was 31 years old. Her life was very miserable. She was in a wheelchair at the age of 3 because she was ran over by a full size van. That was an accident of course. She was on her stomach on a skateboard on a sidewalk. The person who ran her over had no idea she was behind him when he backed out of his driveway.
She had spent her entire life in and out of hospitals. Constantly being poked and prodded. She suffered from bed sores as well. They themselves were so bad they almost killed her.
She had attempted suicide more than once. But someone always found her before she died and she was rushed to the hospital to have her stomach pumped.
Given her circumstances, is she damned to hell for eternity? I know murder and suicide are the worst things one could do. But is she an exception?

Only God can make a judgement on the true and full state of another's soul

Some people believe that all who commit suicide go immediately to Hell. However, the Bible never says if this is the case. The Bible is silent on this issue. God probably did not address it in black in white for a good reason. If we knew that we would still go to Heaven if we killed ourselves, there would probably be a lot more suicides taking place than there already are. However, if we knew that all who killed themselves were automatically banished to Hell, no matter what their situation, it may be too much for the grief-stricken family and friends to bear. Murder and suicide are not unpardonable sins. The only unforgivable sins are rejecting Christ (Mark 16:16) and blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Christians may try to say that they know what happens when someone dies, but I don't think anyone really knows. I know from what I believe that when a person rejects Christ and refuses to acknowledge and obey him then they doom them self to burn in the lake of fire. But the Bible says that all will be resurrected at judgment day, so maybe Jesus will give everyone an opportunity to follow him then? Maybe the only people that would be going to hell would be the people that choose to follow Satan instead of Jesus.

I don't know, and I think if someone says they know for sure they are mistaken.

My condolences for the loss of your friend.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Your friend died as a result of mental/emotional illness and God doesn't send people to Hell because they get sick and die. People go to Hell who don't trust in the salvation that God has provided through faith in the sacrifice that He provided through his Son.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

This is tough. Thank God it is not up to us to judge.
Sorry, but this is the truth- only God, who can see the thoughts and intents of the human heart, can judge perfectly.
We do have this consolation and hope, that God will be perfectly righteous when He does judge.
It IS an extra-ordinary circumstance. For me, honestly, I would believe the best. However, it is not up to me.

I don't believe in hell so I can't answer that aspect of your question. However, I don't believe that modern medicine's ability to prolong life is necessarily a good thing. Our life expectancy has risen, but what sort of life is it? Living in a nursing home not knowing who you are? Undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and suffering unbearable pain? We go to far too many lengths to keep people alive who, like your friend, would have wanted not to live a wretched life.

Interesting statisics:

Twice as many women as men attempt suicide, but twice as many men as women actually COMMIT suicide.

I don't want to be overly cruel, but the fact is that most suicide attempts are calls for help and not intended to actually end one's life. They simply want to attract attention...

She obviously did not know God. If she had, she may have had trust and faith in Him - that He would see her through the life she had.

Could God have reached out to her in her final moments? Possible. But, this is not to be known at this time.

It is very difficult for any person to correctly answer your question.
Only God can.
Did she cry out to God in the very last moments of life, no one knows.
Only God.
