So the tree has been up and trimmed for 3 hours and my two seven month old darlings have only knocked off 1 ornament. Am I feeling too lucky just yet? Does this give you hope for your tree? I think it's due to the fact that I hung a crappy little tree instead of my big heirloom beauty. They would have mauled it I'm sure. Yay! Christmas with kittens! What's funner than that?

Lucky... at least so far ;-) It is still a while before Christmas and I would expect there will be at least one ornament casualty before then! Once they realize that the tree is an endless supply of dangling delights you may be in trouble... and they'll probably discover this when you are away and they are bored...

If I were you I'd keep the precious ornaments off the tree this year... I have a seven month old puppy and I plan on doing the same thing :-)

OMG! Please don't tell me you have a xmas tree up before Thanksgiving! I'm sorry, but I have VERY strong feelings about this.
As for kittens ... with this much time before Christmas, yes, you are feeling too lucky. In the next month and a half, they will have climbed the inside of the tree several times and knocked off WAY more than one ornament. Do you have the unbreakable kind?

Lets hope your luck holds out! Christmas is fun with kittens, all the paper that they dive-bomb into, not to mention having to re-decorate the tree almost daily because they've knocked it over. My cats still try and knock the ornaments off the branches, and Dave tried to climb the tree last year - trouble is he's so big small dogs try to avoid him when he's out and about! x

No, I'm sorry, but that is only the beginning! I would expect the tree to be tipped over at least three times between now and when it's taken down. :) At least one of your kittens will try to climb it! And those shiny shiny baubles are just too tempting and too exciting to leave alone. And just wait til you're in bed or out of the house - there the fun starts! But it will be worth it, to see their excited little faces and know that your handy work and patience with them and the tree, has made their first christmas so special. :) - Expect it, and when it happens you won't be wound up by it, it's just your wee babies playing!

I think it's great.
I'm sure there will be a few things on the floor but if you
get them occupied with other toys or other things then they won't be so curious about the tree. It gets old after it's been up a couple of days.
All the best!
Have fun kitties!
Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

One year, many moons ago, when I had 5 rambunctious cats, I hung my little artificial Christmas tree from the ceiling. It worked out fine, albeit got a few comments from the fams when they saw it. At least kitties didn't get tinsel and other stuff in their little intestines.

I have some spectacular pictures of my daughter's cat Grace exploring the Xmas tree last year and Grace is no kitten.

That's great - I haven't even begun to think of Christmas yet!!! Jeez... :) Give them time - mine were all sweet and innocent the first couple of days...then it started. They terriorized the tree..and then the village I set up underneath got it. I don't think there were any survivors....those poor poor villagers... :)

Hope, I'd say. I hope my new little boy is that nice when we get our tree up...He's so active and playful. But right now he's asleep on my lap. :0) Gotta love fluffy kitties, right?

Hope your kittens stay as well-behaved as they have been.
