For certain reasons I am able to quote certain economic facts. We currently pay 66.7p a litre tax on petrol. The price here is not wildly different to that in say France. The UK economy is the fifth biggest in the world. The total personal tax burden for a standard rate payer in the UK is very similar to comparable EEC countries, certainly not the highest. OK petrol is 20P a litre in Egypt, but the average monthly wage not long ago was under £40. So such comparisons are meaningless. We do borrow much more than average. This is what is driving inflation. Internationally marketed luxury goods like games machines are priced higher here than in any other country owing to our economic behaviour. We also buy many more 4x4 and big cars than average. Draw your own conclusions.

Petrol in the U.K. is 20p a litre. Unfortunately, the British Government adds 80p a litre in taxes - hence, we actually pay around £1.00 a litre.

The average Egyptian earns about £1:50 an hour; if he is lucky.
So in minutes worked it takes about the same time to earn a litre of petrol.

a litre is 1.40 L.E (Egyptian pound)
it worth a big bottle of water (Dasani)
It worth 3 days consumption of a moderate family of bread..
The average wages (i think) is like 500 L.E./month
