My Chinese Shar pei is pregnant with her first litter of puppies. I took her to stay with the stud dog for about 2 and a half weeks and brought her home on October 9th, 2007. She's pretty big, she seems to be filled with milk, yet there is no secretion. Yesterday (Nov. 10, 2007), she had a secretion of a thick yellowish strand of fluid from her vulva. What is the best way to pinpoint her date of delivery or when she should enter labor?

So I was almost positive that I asked a question for an answer. To all you "know-it-alls", maybe you should demonstrate your provocative amount of knowledge on the subject rather than state your possession of it and refer me to another source. I'll breed for whatever reason I please. And I'm also positive that the "spaying" procedure is UNNATURAL in itself, therefore my dog will remain unspayed and I will continue to do what I do. That being said, I've done appropriate research on the bloodlines and certification bullshit. I simply asked what are the best signs of impending whelping. Thanks.

It would help if you knew the exact dates she was bred, as she'll be preg for 62 days, but from the information you've given, I'd guess till the end of this month, beginning of next.

Take her temp, every day, mornin and night, keep a chart. Her temp will run around 101. With in 12 hours of delivery, it'll drop to below 99, I think, has been awhile since I did this. You can look all this stuff up on the web. There's some great, helpful information out there.

it's hard to say a dog is not able to breed that long. if it was a good breeder they should know exactly when the dogs were bred and you figure 63 days fro the breeding. How many is impossible to know an x-ray or sonogram would pretty much tell you.
teh thick yellowish strand could be a sign of infection yet another reason to go to the vets.

The average is 63 days from conception. You can give a day or two & it varies with each dog.

Yeah, I agree with Rose. I don't think I could have said it better myself.
