I think my cat my have Hernia. He is a Manx and about 6 months old.We seem to think it happen from an accident that happened today. My dad was cutting branches off trees and my cat was outside with him.My cat was on the deck and my dad was going up to pet him and he got scared and jumped off the top steps (About 10 feet), he landed on his feet but landed on one side I think. This is what my dad told me.Then we were giving him a bath and when we were drying him with a blow dryer we notice sorta like a sac of water in the lower part of his belly,we seemed to think it was fat bulging down(he is a little overweight) but then when he stood on 4 legs he still had it.My dad says it was Hernia and, from another website I read it could be Umbilical Hernias. We are going to take him to get spayed soon,so we will ask the doctor, but if it serious we will take him tomorrow morning right away.I need to know if it is Umbilical Hernias and if it is what should I do?It isn't that large and is soft. Thanks!

If it is an Umbilical Hernia, he was born with it and it is not serious.

When you take him in to be neutered (not spayed, that is for girls), the Vet can repair it then. The sooner you have him neutered the better.

Please do not allow your cat to become fat!! Being fat will shorten his lifespan and cause him to have joint pain.

I have never heard of an umbilical hernia happening that way. Usually they are there from birth. Whatever the cause, it needs to be repaired at the time of altering. If it is a girl, it is easy and part of the spay. For a boy, it requires an additional procedure. The vet should see it before the surgery say, so he knows what to expect. He can also tell you when it should be done...sooner or later.

If this situation persists, that area of the bowel might nicely be come strangled and contaminated and can develop right into a bowel obstruction. the conventional scientific look after canines and cats and human beings is to do surgical treatment to repair the muscle wall. In a cat, in all probability the biggest fee would be getting the cat positioned to sleep. in case you have an pastime in having the cat spayed or neutered, this technique might desire to be executed alongside with that.
