It would depend on if it is viral or bacterial meningitis and how close you were to them like breathing the same air in a classroom and are you immunocompromised or have chronic illness or diseases yourself. They would be giving you a bottle of pills to take and if in doubt go ahead and and take them. Just make sure you are not allergic to the medicine as they would need to substitute a different family of antibiotics for you. Cindy RN

if you have been exposed to the disease then you should get the antibiotics. they ost porbably will be a course of tablets
