How long is it good for? Also it says it has 35% alcohol. Will it make you drunk if you drink enough of it? If someone is allergic to alcohol would it make them sick to eat homemade candy with the real vanilla extract? Thanks

1.- The vanilla extract will keep indefinitely as long as they're stored in a cool dark place such as a pantry or cupboard that's away from the stove or bright sun. Refrigeration is not recommended.
2.- FDA requires a minimum of 13.35 ounces of vanilla beans to a gallon of a minimum of 35% alcohol to 65% water mixture, so it won't make you drunk.
3.- If a person is allergic to alcohol, don't play with health. You are better off using "Natural Vanilla Flavor", found in natural and specialty food stores and some supermarkets. It isn't an alcohol-based extract. It is usually made with a glycerin or a propylene glycol base. Although the flavor comes from vanilla beans, it doesn't fit the FDA profile for extracts, so it must legally be called natural vanilla flavor.

1) It's good for a very long time if kept out of light.
2) You would get sick from too much vanilla before you got drunk.
3) If it's in something that's cooked (baked fried, whatever), then there's nothing to worry about. If it's not cooked, then it may have an effect, but even the most vanilla heave recipes call for what, a teaspoon or two spread across the whole thing? There's nothing to worry about, I got a family member who's allergic to booze and he's always fine when he's on the cookies. .
