Frankly, I am shocked with the list of stores you gave, that none of them have it. I live on the gulf coast and walmart, winn dixie, and publix has it. But I will tell you that what we buy today as buttermilk, is not real buttermilk. Buttermilk (real) is the milk that is leftover after the butterchurning process. What we buy in stores today is actually more akin to yogurt. It has been fortified to make it more acidic. As a substitute, you can mix plain yogurt with a lowfat milk. I would go back to either Albertson's or Whole Foods and ask about it's availability. Not too many people use it today. I probably find it because I live in the deep south. Good luck.

As previously stated, fresh is in the dairy next to the regular milk. In the baking isle, there's most likely going to be a powdered version. It's not as good as fresh, but if you don't use buttermilk that often, it's a way of keeping it on hand.

If you're in a pinch and would rather avoid a special trip to the grocery store, there's an easy substitution:
Put 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar into a measuring cup and add enough milk to measure 1 cup.
In your case, just double the recipe and use low-fat milk. :)
