Is this a good camera? I don't want anything flash that I need to spend a lot of money on. I just want a camera that will shoot in manual mode and take awesome photos.

for a guy rubishs film this is a turn around??

it will do all you want - use it manual and the "features" are pointless

the 01 series i dont like really - to electronic - to many things to go wrong........the f90 and f100 are the beastly ones - still to electronic for me

the F2/4 etc series do the most for me - little eletronics except the meter - they tend to last 30 years and counting, add can be used to beat stroppy models and will keep on shooting

for $150 the F601 would be a great addition to your kit --- hopefully the first of many film cams

exciting stuff........please when you master film dont go to anti digi.......

film cams are good because there no processing goes on, its lens and film, nothing in between

Two Nikon film cameras that I do not care for: Nikon N4004 and Nikon n6006. The n4004 does not have good feature or setup, and the n6006 has too loud of a mirror reflex. It is so great, it rattles the camera pretty good. It doesnt mean they dont take good images; one thing to remember is that the type of images your camera takes depends on the film, not the camera. I would also keep clear of any of the newer film camera, whatever the brand, except for the more expensive models.

As a suggestion, I would recommend the Nikon 2020, N8008s, or n90, or any camera from the F lineup.

The N8008s is an excellent camera, and the n90 is even better.

Hope this helped.

I have the N6006, which I believe is the same as the F601 I used it for years, now my daughter uses it for her primary film camera.. It is a bit loud, but not excessively so. I used it to shoot weddings and such and no one complained. The AF is slower, but the camera was fine and you can probably get one for a few dollars.

As it's a camera from the early 90's I'd take it in for CLA (clean, lube and adjust). You may need light seals or mirror bumper replaced.

The AF and metering may not be up to current standards, but there's really nothing about it that will hold you back.

I've never used one myself, but this site has several user reviews:
