If the towers were not hit, what do you think the U.S.'s role in Global War on Terrorism would be today?

GWOT...i strongly feel if the Twin Towers were not hit, then we wouldn't be here in the mind set we are in NOW. Our troops would still be in the middle east but no where to the extent we have now. Saddam would have probably still be running Iraq and not in hiding when we found him. Bin Ladin would still be hiding in Afghanistan making stupid propaganda videos against the US and western civilization. But if it hadn't have been the Twin Towers, then who knows what else terrorists/extremists would have done. But honestly who really knows the role of the US now if it wasn't for the 9/11 attack. But now because of the jackasses that did all of this, i have to play GI Joe and provide security for some 30000 detainees. I have to go cultural awareness classes, so I don't piss off the tree huggers that feel the guys in yellow are innocent and NOT known TERRORISTS. But now, I have to make sure I present my right hand only in greetings. I have to make sure my feet aren't shown to these terrorists. So, I feel if the US was not attacked, we would not be playing a role like we are now. We would have simple deployments and be able to recuperate back home and not suffer from PTSD. I can go on and on but then i would need more room here but I would be ranting on about a deeper issue. So again, if the US was not attacked, we would NOT be here. just my opinion.

The Department of Homeland Security would be arranging online dates, in coordination with e-harmony.com.

Sorry to be so flippant; but the whole notion of imagining one event being removed from the stream of history, and then speculating on what would be different today is absurd. We might as well ask, "If Archduke Ferdinand had not been killed, what do you think the Ottoman Empire's role in the Global War on Terrorism would be today?"

Impossible to guess. Might be a fun party game, though.

from Skeptic: "By the way, an airplane crash and a fire are not sufficient to cause a collapse of these three buildings in NYC on 9/11/2001."

Um, yes they were sufficient. I keep hearing the fire temps weren't high enough to melt steel. So, what? You don't need to --melt-- the steel to lose structural integrity. Margarine's hard in the fridge and doesn't melt until 120 degrees or so; but it's just a soft goo at room temperature. At the temps of those fires, the twin towers' support beams easily lost enough structural integrity to fail under the weight put on them. (Don't know enough about the 3rd bldg to comment on it, though.)

I'm becoming more convinced each week that there's a conspiracy behind the spread of the "we attacked ourselves" theory. The physics behind it has been shot down too many times for this many people to fall for it by themselves.

I believe it would be significantly less than as it is today. Provided there wasn't a different terrorist attack in the U.S. But do not be confused. What we are doing in Iraq is right, and just. There is hope for Iraq as a democratic nation, able to stand under its own power. President Bush is leading the country in the correct direction here, and future generations will look back upon this day and age as the true likeness of an upright nation among all others.

I think that the perpetrators of this 9/11 event would have found another way to create an event that would consolidate public opinion and enable the US to attack countries in the Middle East. This event is clearly on the order of "Pearl Harbor."

By the way, an airplane crash and a fire are not sufficient to cause a collapse of these three buildings in NYC on 9/11/2001. They were demolished with explosives.

If U.S Gov. did not plan 9/11, there would be no war going on to "invade" Afghanistan and Iraq for the Weapons of Mass Distruction and some sleepy liquid.

Baby Bush wouldve finished what daddy couldnt either way.9/11 or not. So even though it was a HUGE influence we probably just wouldve been set back a couple of months if it hadnt of happened.
