Actually, the S&W .500 Magnum is powerful but it is NOT the most powerful handgun on the planet.

The most powerful handgun is by far the Pfeifer-Zeliska .600 Nitro Express Magnum.

With a bullet weight of 900 grains and a Muzzle Velocity of 1950 fps it produces Muzzle Energy of 7591 ft/lbs. No, that is not a typo. Seven Thousand and Ninety One Foot Pounds of energy. That is 8 times more powerful than the .44 Magnum and 3 times more powerful than the oh so ever over-rated S&W .500 Magnum.

You guys were close but you missed it by an inch. Google is not always your friend.

Commercially, who makes the most powerful handgun? Today that honor goes to Smith & Wesson with its behemoth .500 S & W revolver.

Best.

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

The SW 500 magnum is the most powerful handgun cartridge. Accordingly, Smith and Wesson developed the 1st pistol to shoot this cartridge.

depends, if you mean handgun chambered in a handgun cartridge, then S&W does with the 500 S&W. But if you mean just plain most powerful, there are a lot of custom handguns chambered in rifle cartridges like 45-70 etc that are more powerful.

The S & W 500 Magnum, this revolver is not for those who ask what is the most powerful handgun, it will dent your forehead and give you perment hearing loss.

Any handgun company that specializes in single-shot pistols chambered in centerfire rifle caliber. You did not state specific criteria so I took it to the limit. .500SW is peanuts to a 30-06 Lone Eagle pistol.
