Catholics in the past claimed that their brand of Christianity was the truth 'to the exclusion of all others'. Have they stopped claiming this or do they still believe it ?

Read Nostra Aetate the Church's Declaration on Non Christian religions .http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651028_nostra-aetate_en.html
It states the Church rejects nothing that is true and comes from God in any relgion. That ALL religions seek and find God and all religions contain truth. Catholics believe they have the fullness of the truth, but others have truth and God as well.

Sean purgatory is still around it is limbo (which was never a doctrine, just and idea) you are thinking of. They did not change their minds, they never said it existed, now all they say is that it does not exist.

Catholic Church teaches not only religious tolerance but appreciation of the catholic Truth in other religions and the catholic Church still teaches that it is the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church but that other trinitarian Churches are in "real but impaired communion " with her and that other churches are channels of grace. The Catholic Church teaches that the Creator, God Almighty, has revealed Himself to all people, in all cultures, throughout all of history.

However, the fullness of Truth, as revealed in the initial deposit of Faith given to the world by Jesus Christ, has been faithfully preserved by the successors to the Apostles: the Catholic Bishops, with the Bishop of Rome the first among equals.

While the Catholic Church still believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she also seeks and supports the freedom of religion for all human beings.

In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:

The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.

For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651207_dignitatis-humanae_en.html

The Catholic Church is the true, original Church founded by Christ. It's historical fact.

We believe in the freedom of religion for all mankind, and the free will of all to practice whatever faith they choose. We do not have to, however, and will not accept teachings contrary to Christ.

God bless.

Salam

They say eye for eye, do unto others as they do to you. I say take one of my eyes I have 2 of them you can have one. Islam shows them the truth and they can ignore it and themselves if they desire but that is impossible.

They can't even decide on whether or not "this" or "that" is a sin! And what ever happened to purgatory...where'd all the unbaptised children go?
