because people apparently don't know the difference.
according to believers, jesus is not god, jesus (christ, lord, savior, etc) is the son of god (holy spirit).

The idea that Jesus is both God and human is a mystery beyond our limited experience. Yet no other explanation upholds all that Scripture says about Jesus Christ. Understanding this essential truth is more than an intellectual exercise. It involves appreciating the great depths of God's love for us.
Jesus, conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of a woman (Matthew 1:20), was the union of God and humankind for the express purpose of providing a Savior for us (verse 21). This Savior would have a vital and unique quality—he would be Immanuel, which means "God with us" (verses 22-23). He was indeed fully God and yet in an amazing, glorious way, he was "with us" by being fully one of us.
Jesus is fully God and fully human.

Not "always", but I will answer this one anyway. The truth is that Jesus never thought he was God, his original Disciples never thought he was God, and no such teaching exists in the Bible at all. Many make the mistake because of being exposed to twisted teachings which came long after Jesus' death.
If anyone really DOES read the Bible, they would know better than to say that a misinterpretation of one or two sentances can negate volumes of clear text saying otherwise. Time after time, Jesus made it plain that he was NOT God. He clearly wouldn't even let someone call him 'Good Teacher', saying "noone is good except for the father". People somehow manage to miss when he asked Peter, 'who do you say I am?' and Peter said 'for a certainty I perceive that you are the son of God.' - and Jesus gave his favorite affirmation to that, following up with 'you yourself have said it'. Over and over, it is clear that Jesus (while washing the feet of others, and many other lessons) did not claim to be God. Satan tried to tempt him, but if he were God that would have been a ridiculously lost cause. If he already had all power and glory, he couldn't have been offered any. When he returned to heaven, it was written that he received honors and a promotion - which God couldn't have received - who would give it to him?
Further, what a pitiful meat-puppet Jesus was if he was really God, who could not die at all, and claimed to have been sacrificed! Either he died or he did not - and if he was God then he did NOT die at all (as the Bible teaches that God cannot die at all), but put on a puppet-show which had no real meaning. Which one was it, Christians? Real or fake? Don't keep calling Jesus God or you are not following the teachings or way of Jesus at all. He taught people to pray to his Father like he did - NOT to him! He wouldn't have allowed that for one second - get to know him by reading the Bible one more time, and see if he is not claiming to be the son of God, who worshipped his father as his own God.
The idea of a trinity is not originally Christian either, but was one of many things tossed around among men who sought political power and glory and control over the masses long ago at a few pivotal councils. They decided much of what 'Christianity' holds dear today without regard for what was written in the canonnical Bible. Reading the Bible doesn't get you taught such things - modern churches which are offspring/offshoots of older corrupt churches do.
That being said, I nowadays wholely reject the Bible as the inspired word of God. I clearly hold the sacrifice of Jesus in distain, holding that human sacrifice is a horrible way to try to atone for the sins of others - killing a good person does not make it okay for bad ones to hurt others. That defies all logic and has no heart at all. I accept that love is the greatest law, but it dictates to me that to kill my child would be WRONG, and any God thinking like that can kiss my azz, slowly.
Does that answer this question clearly enough? If not, I'll elaborate for anyone who wants to know...

You fundies love to generalise; y'all believe you're they only ones who hold Jesus up as the hero of the story.
"Why is jesus always referred to as god?"
MOST Jesus followers do NOT refer to Jesus as god; they refer to Jehovah as god.
According to the myth, Jesus was a fella on a stick who died and was zombified.
It's only fundies who reckon Jesus is god and y'all are a very small, but extremely vocal, sect of the xian cult.

because when the gospels were written the writers wanted to challenge the divinity of the roman emperor, so they claimed to see jesus after he was dead, create the miracles and had jesus claim he and god were the same. this is the real reason they were executed and why it wouldn't have mattered if they didn't recant or not because saying someone else was a god was a death penalty offense in the roman empire.

Because Jesus became God in the flesh. God is a triune being, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, or the 'comforter '

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
"No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known."
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!"
"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form"
"while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ."
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
"We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life."
"This is what the LORD says—Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."
