We, humankind, was created with a desire to worship.
It is a process that is evident in every culture and age that we have examined.
Some have been led astray with inaccurate knowledge and put their 'worship' into things; money, sports figures, celebrities, carved images, etc. Sometimes even self-invented gods.
Whatever direction it goes, it is from a desire to fill a 'spiritual' need. Unfortunately, for many the need is not filled because the object of veneration is not of any real value.

God is like a focusing point. If you don't have some type of spirit, that hold the universe together as one, and makes sense of it, you are left with just the individual spirits that we are, without a strong cohesive collective purpose to focus on, and get the most out of ourself in relationship to the bigger world.
