when we look back at the bad things that have happened because of christianity (like the salem witch trails, the iquisition, ect.) people say that those were the "bad" christians and that satan was the true culprit.
But i can't help but to notice that those things weren't necessary done by the "bad" people, becuase they acted in earnest. No one, including satan, was at fault for those things.
THe atrocities that occured were products of their own unmodern times. So this means that "bad" things occured for arbitrary reasons, right?

no it is not the evil of men.
ignorance, perhaps.

more than anything it was god, though.

you see, the salem witch burners were not at fault. they were following what was given unto them form an earnest approach to scpripture.

and the inquisition, was not man's folly at all. If it wouldn't have happened, we might not have the christian theology we have today. The church sincerely thought that it was fighting the deception of satan by killing the prolification of theology they did not approve of.

These things occurred more so out of human ignorance and wickedness. One only required the appearance of religiosity in order to accuse a foe or competitor of blasphemy.

Your evidence that these things happened because of Christianity are? How do you feel about the atheist that in less than 100 years killed 140+ million people fault finder? And if you acknowledge that those Christians were good, why are you picking on things from over a hundred years ago?

And why are you lumping in the Puritans with the Catholics?

Do you know how many people died from the Inquisition (which by the way still exists) verses the Salem Witch Trials? Did you know that the Spanish Inquisition actually PREVENTED mob style witch hunts?

As for Satan, lol, how is going about like a roaring lion constantly sowing confusion and provoking people to hatred make him Mr. Innocent? Sick that you would defend him.

Stop stereotyping and assuming things, and stop being gullible. How about bringing up why atheists hardly lift a finger to help anyone out of unbiased love as opposed to Presbyterians and Catholics? It's really easy to find a atheist saying, "Yeah I'll help an atheist country" and not mention a word about a "Christian country" whatever the hell that is since none exists.

You forgot the Genocide of the Native Americans, and the Catholic Church ignoring the Holocaust.

No, bad people do bad things, they just hide behind their religion doing them, and that goes all the way to the top.

It is not true that it is caused by unmodern times, we just haven't had an atrocity lately, but it will happen again eventually. I am guessing it will be a holy war with the Muslims.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and you can see that in history.

These things happened and continue to happen because Christianity - as well as some other "major" religions - are structured to be control mechanisms. These religions are very small in their range and try to confine God to a very small box. The members see anyone outside the small box to be a threat to life itself so they must be eliminated. The members see themselves as being higher than others because of the label they have put upon themselves. Even though the Bible speaks of not judging others, God creating all people in divine image, etc., Christians put themselves above God's word because they THINK they know what God really meant.

I say these things not out of dislike for Christians because I was raised a Christian and practiced Christianity for several decades. Our children were raised Christians as well. It has only been recently that I have finally admitted that the religion doesn't make sense and that God is so much more than anyone of us can even imagine. He will never fit in a small box.

When one picks and chooses which scriptures one believes it is possible for them to become almost cultist in their doctrines. But the word itself says the scriptures are not for one person's interpretation. Sometimes folks just get the wrong idea about the scriptures. Zealots are dangerous no matter what their beliefs. Anyone can take ANY BELIEF to an extreme. The situations you question are two such situations. I don't think it had anything to do with BAD CHRISTIANS. I think they were ill informed and unloving. I believe that one wants to convert people and when it doesn't happen they go to extremes to make it happen.

Though I believe in satan---please note little "s"----but I don't think he caused the havoc to these people. Just people who got caught up in the frenzy. Mob mentality if you will. Christ would definitely be offended to know that people crippled, killed, tortured in HIS name. What these people did is on them, not Christ.

Just my opinion. You be good now, ya hear?

Christianity began out precisely because it ought to have. the 1st 3 hundred years have been non violent, different than for Christians being persecuted and killed. The Crusades - no longer something incorrect there. The Christians had to give up the advancing Muslims, who were attacking and conquering anyone for hundreds of years. The Church become additionally a governing physique at one time, or in mattress with the governing physique. That become the blunders of people, no longer of Christianity. ability corrupts.

If we begin with "first principles" that are actually rational and self-evident, as opposed to irrational and dogmatic, we're less likely to find ourselves committing heinous atrocities in the name of "good" - which is basically the history of religion. Suddenly the village collectively realizes that it's hanged dozens of innocent people in the interest of stamping out "evil."

It's useless to say the witch-hunters or the Crusaders or the Inquisitors weren't "real Christians" or "didn't have the spirit of Christ." They thought they did, and would've said it's the moderns who aren't "real Christians." And how do we really determine who's right? We can't; because neither position is based on anything rational or self-evident. It's based on "faith," which is anything you want it to be.

Far more people were killed in the name of god than in the name of the devil . It seems like Satan is the higher scorer .
